Are there different types of wireless Routers ?

ok try this to find your routers IP address on your wired PC
goto
START ->Run and type cmd in the run box and hit ok.
when the dos window opens type ipconfig /all
then look for the default gateway and the ip address should be the one you type into your browser (from your Wired up PC not the laptops that have not connection). That should get you to your router in IE/Firefox"Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

on the same screen it did say
IP routing enabled.........NO ?0 -
OP
your son could buy a wireless adapter to use with his 360, this would stop him unplugging the router and he could go on his 360 when he wants too, this would stop your DS from unplugging the router0 -

If you cant access your router try turning off any firewalls you have on your wired pc they maybe blocking access or put that IP address in your allowed/safe whatver of your firewall."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. your internal IP address wont be a security issue as it is behind your router and is hidden. if it is a linksys then chances are the router default gateway ip is 192.168.1.1
The first host (PC) to connect would be 192.168.1.101
the subnet mask would be 255.255.255.0
(I am running a linksys wireless router 4 port switch also..)
The ip address of your router to the outside world would be unique though and disclosing this is not necessary.
if you could post the ip addresses you get on the "ipconfig" then it may help just incase there is a subnet mask problem or a ip conflict.
I still take it you cannot connect to the router web browser setup page (should be http://192.168.1.1)Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -

that sounds like your IP address which is to the outside - it will most likely change if you shut down the modem for a time and turn it back onniceday999 wrote: »the number i have at default gateway is 82.18.168.1 ?
(this is called DHCP release - and saves IP addresses for the internet.
as you say you are on Virigin broadband - this is cable I take it?
So you should have the cable coming into the house and going into the virgin supplied modem (usually a small blue box).
This should then have an ethernet cable which connects to the router . is the router then connected to your main PC with an ethernet cable?

yes thats correct. my son has just checked what you wrote above and says Yes.....lol
i have not got a clue.
Yes thats my router.
we plugged an ethernet cable from the modem to the router then another ethernet from the router to pc.
it does not seem to be working now after he has fiddled with it0
