Lotto, I was in the same position as you, we sold and moved into rented. I used it as an opportunity to declutter big time and it's really great to have done it. We were lucky to find somewher with great storage (2 large sheds, a greenhouse and a large porch) and haven't had to pay for storage at all. We've got our own freezer and washing machine in the porch - doesn't look great but it saves money.
It might be worth finding out how much storage would cost. It shocked me how much it would be and it allowed us to work out whether it would be cheaper to go for a larger house or a smaller one and pay for storage. We thought we'd only be in this house for max. 6 months as we were buying a house but that fell through and we could be here for another year for all we know as there is so little out there to buy and we are saving £100+ per month on storage.
I always keep an eye on this thread as my heart goes out to all of you trying to sell. It brings back all the frustration we went through as it took us 15 months from the date we put it on the market to the day we moved out (and 50+ viewings!!!!!). I wish you all luck and look forward to seeing some good news here.
Thanks so much for your advice.
I have spent the morning sitting here looking at rental properties, phoning letting agents and generally getting more and more depressed (not helped by a sore throat and cold starting). I chose the house I'm in because the rooms are spacious -and yes, so many rental houses already have washing machines, fridges etc. Unfortunately, I won't be buying again in the near future - although hopefully that may change eventually - so I really have to make some sensible and cost effective decisions about what to keep, take, sell.0 -
pawpurrs,, no they didnt comment on it but for some reason i kept taking them over to the window to show them the bus stop, where the stations would be, the trees and the view, which is nice. i thought they left a bit quick, dont think they are interested0

Dont count your chickens Jenner those that are in and out quickly and barely show any interest are quite often those that buy. And those that bore you for three hours asking what you are taking and making all the right noises, inverably dont
Oh boots, I dont know what to say, people that mess around like that really get on my goat! Wait and see what they say, but only you can make the decision as to what to do if they come back with that, personally 30k no I wouldnt have that, thats a heck of a lot! They should have offered less if they couldnt afford what they offered. If the house was downvalued or something then that would be different. I wish buyers were more qualified before they offered, personally if they are cash they should have to prove it, and they should have to show a mortgage offer before a house is taken off the market. Its just not on to mess people around like that!Pawpurrs x

came on for a moan. Our buyers have been very slow lots of dragging heels (no chain but now 10 weeks since offer accepted) all ready to go but now surprise surprise are £30k short of deposit and stamp duty money. URGHHHHH are getting back to us monday - I wonder what they will say??? can we have another £30k off I believe??? I hate the whole house selling process and it is 100 times more stressful now. I am so pee'd off about this as I know i wouldn't do this to someone unless the survey showed a problem. Any advice re our response on Monday would be most appreciated.:coffee:i find a cup of tea can solve most problems:coffee:

Sorry to hear that - how frustrating. Yes, I agree the whole house selling process is horrible (I work in conveyancing so I've seen it all -and I'm currently selling my own) £30K+ does sound rather a lot for them to have miscalculated when they made the offer.
Perhaps they need a revised mortgage offer (with a bit of pressure this can usually be faxed through if necessary to their solicitors to speed things up).
Not sure what you can do except ask for an exchange deadline perhaps with proviso it goes back on market thereafter. However, if as you say you are nearly there - there shouldn't be too much more to do now other than exchange and set the completion date once their deposit is available.
If they're trying to get the price down you could perhaps say you'll need to consider it and then leave them to wait it out for a number of days before you get back with an answer.
Hope this is just a small blip and it all goes through soon without any more delays.0 -

Hmmm.....We're about £60k worse off, thanks to our original dreamers who messed around for 12 weeks. Of course they are better-off financially but, having walked away from our house, as far as I know, they are still where they started, in a poky flat. We should have known the signs when they whinged about having already 'lost two properties' they'd 'set their hearts on,' but then we were extremely naive!
I've no idea how the survey of our house went, as we weren't here. We decided to take a holiday, somewhere with only intermittent mobile signals, but our answerphone is clear of bad news. Against our better judgement, we looked at a few properties too, but although one was good value, none made us want to buy at the moment, mostly because smallholdings are still at 2007 prices. It isn't so easy to contrast & compare with rural houses, and the owners know that but, ultimately, they will face the same drops as everyone else. We have to make that £60k back somehow, and if that means renting for the next year or so, that's what we will do.
In my catch-up reading on this thread, someone was asking about the cost of storage when renting. We have 100 square feet in Pickfords, which costs £160 a month, but we hope to get that down considerably when we rent something with a garage and also buy yet another shed!0 -
Talk about jammy! :T
Anyway, I'm sure it'll go smoother than Silky the silkworm's favourite silk pyjamas. It sounds like they're keen at least.

Thanks 2520years! I know we have been very very lucky, just the survey to go now, got everything crossed and wood touched, even finding myself talking to magpies if I only see 1, I wish noone had told me about that superstition!!

Very very Jammy! Hope it goes through smoothly for you.
Still only the one viewing this week for me, and they are not even on the market. Ho Hum! Still you only need one person, and that call can come at any time.
Thanks Pawpurrs, you are right it only takes one, good luck and hope you get your sale soon. I've still not told our boys we are moving, I dont want to get hopes up only for somehing to go pear shaped.(ever the optimist;) )

Well my 10% reduction from a price that was already very competitive has not had much impact. The EA has said that I am in competition with a number of repo's which would mean dropping 40%. He said he is struggling even with these repo's.
I could do this but the EA has said that the bigger houses (we need to move to) will not consider these kinds of reductions. He (the EA) seems really nice, he tells me he is pulling his hair out with those selling, some houses have been on the market for over a year and will not entertain a 10% less offer!
We have been keeping our eye on the market and this seems to be the case, the drops (where there are any) on the bigger houses, are very small. So they are just not selling.
I have had an offer but the person has not sold, a potential cash buyer who 'went missing' and another very interested but she needs to sort out a mortgage offer.
I would happily take the 40% drop if the other houses fell into line, but there are not even any houses to rent (of the size I would need). I think I will wait til the new year now and have another think.
I suppose I have only been on the market for 4 months and may be too impatient, I know many of you took much longer to sell.

Sounds like there is interest then Mishmash, and some that could come together, so thats not bad, fingers crossed. Tidying up for my timewasters today. Well I say timewasters only because they are not even on the market, going up for a pub lunch and will then come back and light a fire in the inglenook to make it look nice and cosy.Pawpurrs x
