Coffee grounds for your garden (merged)

Probably a stupid question but what does coffe groundings do for your garden?
Is it a fertiliser?
I do have a garden but have not spent much time on it until this year so my knowlege is quite limited. Please indulge me

It's to keep the cats off ! they are supposed to hate the smell !

And its good for the soil. Not all *bucks do it though. I'm a regular "grounder".

I got a Composter free from my council 2 years ago and with it a list if what you can put in it apart from garden waste, coffee groudings, tea bags, broken egg shells.....

The list went on and the worms just love it!!:D

the coffee also speeds up the composting process too, usually put some in when my bins full and it rots down far quicker

I used some a few months ago ..if nothing else it made my garden look lovely!! It was like new peat..but did not get all slushy when wet..it was really good. You need quite a lot of it though!

I use it around hostas - deters the slugs.

If you go into your local Starbucks, and they don't have any groundings out the front. If you ask the server, they will go out the back and get some for you.

I usually go to Cheshire Oaks, and the guys/ladies there are really good, and get some from the back for me. Usually quite a few bags, but these are guys/ladies are the best in the area in my opinion.

Or, if you are a coffee fanatic you can keep the coffee indoors as a sort of Pot Pourri or odour neutraliser (you might notice it smells absolutely gorgeous!) You might laugh, but when I was in school I would swear the teachers must have done this. The classrooms always seemed to smell of coffee.

You are lucky! I have asked and asked but most of my regular shops say they dont do grounds. The one in Chelmsford does and I have found one other who didn't have any out but emptied the machine for me. 2 in Romford said no, neither in Bluewater will do it either.
