Coffee grounds for your garden (merged)

My local Starbucks are displaying free bags of coffee grounds (I got two). It says on the bag they have an average PH of 6.9 and can be put on nitrogen-loving plants or on your compost. The bags have proper printed labels so I assume other branches are doing it too.

  • Most Starbucks will give you a free bag of coffee grounds if you ask at the till, regardless of whether they're displaying an offer or not. Just ask at the till when you're making a purchase...I believe the bags are large...very good to dig into your soil.

I got one of these a few weeks ago. It leaked in my bag  still my Mum was pleased to have it for her garden.

Well you learn something every day.................

First thing in the morning (every morning), I make myself a pot of coffee. I've been chucking the grinds in the bin every day (for years)! I'm going to sort out an old jar tommorrow and empty the grinds into this. These are going out in the garden from now on. Reading this thread made me have a look around the net about using these. For sure, there are loads of sites recommending using these in the garden.

You can either put them on the compost heap (tea too) or around plants in the garden and they act as a mulch and provide some goodness too.

    Be green compost!!
  • I, ermmmm, use coffee grounds as body scrub :) The caffeine is supposed to be good for your cellulite, and it definitely makes your skin lovely and smooth. I just scoop up a handful and scrub all over - sometimes mix in with a splodge of shower gel first. I just use it in the shower and then shower off as normal.

I don't know that I'd want to do it with Starbucks leftovers though! :D I'll stick to my own coffee grounds I think ;)

What a good idea! Mine go on the compost at the moment, but I think I'll try this. Thanks!

    I'll try anything once.

I will certainly save them for the garden now.
