  • I phoned up sky asking for sports channels so I could watch Andrew Murray perform on the big stage. They offered me a package with movies for 3 months at a good rate so I accepted.

Today, 2 days after I was supposed to cancel, I have called to cancel package. I missed the date so they have charged for another month- I can understand this.

So, I asked them to cancel it on the day my prepaid month runs out. They say they can cancel now or I have to call back again at the end of prepaid month - THUS RISKING MISSING THE DATE AGAIN??? Why would I want to do that??? Surely they should be happy with receiving the money from me missing the first date...why must they pull the same stunt again. There computers must be advanced enough to set a predetermined date for cancellation. Why do I have to constantlly call them?? I am busy (and forgetful).

SKY is no friend of mine............rant...
  • Phoned up Sky to find out about getting a sky+ box for my Dad for his Christmas (he's been a Sky customer for about 20 years - has always had the same box and pays £40 plus per month). They quoted me £259!!!!! Gonna tell my Dad to phone up and say he's cancelling and see what they say. Can't believe they treat loyal, existing customers so poorly.

That's the way all companies work. I have never heard of being able to cancel an account from a date set some time in the future. The way Sky (and Virgin) works is that you have to give 30 days notice of cancellation. It has always been thus.

Put a note on the fridge, the calendar and set your alarm on your mobile to go off on the required day.

In my experience you can cancel any part of your package, once you are outside your initial 12 month contract, as long as you haven't upgraded your package within the last month, and Sky will apply a credit to the next bill for any unused subscription paid in advance. Hope that's not too complicated a way of saying that if you did cancel now they will refund your over payment on the next bill.

If I refer you as a friend you would get Sky+ free and I would get £50 in M&S vouchers.
  • Another tip for people if they have problems with Sky + box freezing etc like Claire6hy is:
    Go to Services Menu
select no' 4 system set up
    then press 0 1 select
this will take you to engineers menu
sky+ planner rebuild defrags the memory (will stop any recordings in progress but doesn't delete stored programmes - well hasn't ever on mine)
If you choose full system reset it may help more severe problems but will def delete all programmes so only use if nothing else works
When you use either the box will reset itself taking a couple of minutes then go into stand by leave for 10 mins then all should be sorted!

Yes, or you can check on the referrals board, where someone will share the M & S vouchers with you, OR, have a good look around on the web, and then phone SKY to see what deal they will offer you direct. If your friend is giving you the vouchers then that might be the best deal.
