I just phoned and got 1 mix for £5 a month for 4 months plus my broadband at £5 a month. They were ready to give me a MAC so no deals there. I'm stuck with BT just now so couldn't do anything with their line rental.

I only had 2 mixes before so I've saved £12.50 a month for 4 months for only losing music channels that I never watched anyway.

We're getting Sky+ soon. Does anyone know if we Sky plus lots of movies what would happen if we then cancelled the movie option to save money? I'm thinking of doing this. Would we still be able to watch the movies we'd recorded on Sky plus?

Also if we cancel the movie option, are there still movies available on the Sky Anytime option?

Many thanks to anyone who can help. :A
SKY+ is fantastic but wouldn't waste extra money on movie option. We only had movies a month before we decided it wasn't worth the expense and we'd seen the vast majority anyway. We hadn't bothered downloading any movies so it really didn't matter they were wiped once we cancelled.

I've been with sky for over 3 years, I'd like to get a hd box with a hd subscription, I've been looking around on the forums to find out what deals people have been offered. I'd be grateful if you could let me know what no did you call to get your deal?

    Cheers for your helpsmile.gif

I phoned a (wrong!) number from saynoto0870.com but ended up being transferred to cancellations.

  • I called today to cancel. I'm currently on 6 mixes and have sky+. I pay 21.50 per month...but next month it is going up to 22.50.
When i called, he tried to encourage me to reduce my number of mixes to bring the cost down. I told him that it is still too expensive with less mixes. At that stage, he gave up and continued with the cancellation! He said it will take 31 days to come into effect. I will get the Freesat channels and lose Sky+ recording facility.
    Any advice??

Someone may still call you back to renegotiate as has happened to others before, or you could call them back, speaking to a different person to 'just find out if you can cancel earlier'. It appears that some operators have more ability to negotiate than others.

After reading this thread some months ago, I also decided to phone to ask whether they had any special offers to help during the difficult economic period. They said no, there was nothing. It is obviously hit and miss whether you are offered a special deal. Anyway, I decided to go ahead and cancel, to see if anything may be forthcoming as a special offer. No luck. Subscription was cancelled and I thought that we would wait a while and rejoin.

During this time I went through the channel listings and marked all the ones I liked the look of as a favourite. Discovered there was loads to watch totally free. Admittedly you can't get any of the National Geographic style channels, but there are loads of movies and other stuff on free channels and we watch more movies now than when we paid for a subscription.

If you decide that you do want to go back to paid subscription, just hang on for a while and the offers start pouring in through the post. I just chuck them away now, but you can get 6 months either half price or free. Although I had one recently, I don't bother reading them so unfortunately I can't tell you exactly what they say. If I was still interested, it would be a good offer, that much I can recall.

Unfortunately you do lose Sky+, which is a bit of a bind, but in our case we just went back to the "old" way of doing it, by programming our recorder. It won't be long and we will be able to use Freeview+ and that will only cost you for the box, no subs as far as I know. Can't wait!

So actually you're paying more than £21.50 a month. You forgot the interest and it's at the high rate your credit card charges.

    FreeSat only isn't so bad.
