Sky subscription "credit crunch" offer

What an odd question
Are you starting some sort of self help group for those that were?
Actually no. I just thought that red rabbit's response to st luke's letter was bloody rude - possibly in line with the behaviour of a bully...and most bully's are ex-victims of bullying IMHO!
That's it!
A comment like that could be really crushing - think before you write perhaps?0 -
I had Sky and wanted to upgrade desperately. I got money for my birthday (enough to cover the Sky+ cost of £160).
I read the mails and decided to give it a try, I phoned to cancel my subscription and the very nice man said sure no problem but may i ask why?
I gave him the well constructed reasons suggested on the forum -
i) young children watch free channels (cbeebies) and i dont get a look in day time.
ii) my video broken and i decided to get a freeview box with hard disk as its really cheap.
iii) sad to loose sky but cant justify the cost of £99 + £60 installation.
They were great and immediately gave me the fully installed for £49 offer. This was all i wanted - and i now have an extra £110 birthday money to spend on me:T
I also pay monthly repair contract, so the 12 month warranty will save me on monthly bills.:D
Thanks for the post - You never know until you try.

hi
a quick question about my sky hd box, we got it 1 week ago and i am having a problem with it, when it turns itself into standby at night in the morning i cannot get it to come back on again, so i have to unplug it at the back, sometimes i have to do this 3 or 4 times before it starts up, also it sometimes takes ages to come on. obviously this is really annoying. has anyone else had this problem, really annoyed as a program was on last week (brides in the bath - martin kemp) which i have been waiting ages for and i now have this on the box but if it has to be substituted i will loose it:mad: .
thanks
nilrs
Hiya,
Had exactly the same prob, very annoying I'd had my sky+ for about 4 months, the guy came around and I had to have a new box, lost all my taped stuff:eek: and now this new box turns itself to standby of a night, think i may call them again.........Sam B0 -

Rude, possibly but also suggests that they thought that the original letter could have been better worded perhaps?
Being rude is not the preserve of those who bully or have been bullied.
Are you suggesting my comment could be potentially crushing or the post from redrabbit?0 -

I think that it (the going into standby not the inability to be switched back on) is a design feature that the boxes go into standby during the night.
I am sure Sky promote this as part of their "being green"0 -

all sky boxes turn themselves to standby after midnight if you are not watching the tv, its a power saving thing thats programmed into the boxes0 -
There's a setting on one of the menus to stop it going into standby at a certain time. It's based on the time of day, rather than if you're watching tv or not as the sky box has no way of knowing if you're watching the feed or not.
I'll check when I get home tonight and let you know which menu it's in.In need of a new signature! :rotfl:0 -

No, not your message LOL.
I mean that there are loads of people that haven't had the "academic" opportunity of others, or are simply not so capable. Criticising or blatantly taking the mick as red rabbit did, can be really damaging.
Anyway, I sound like a wimpy liberal going on about this...I just thought it was a poor thing to have done....0 -

I think that part of the issue with anything like this is that internet/forum conversations are unlike "real life" ones as you cannot hear the inflection in a persons voice so you cannot always tell if they are asking a question being sympathetic or just having a go.
Anyway to all who try to get a deal from Sky - good luck
PS and no harm in being a wimpy liberal from time to time.0 -
I subscribed to Sky, ordering and paying for a skyplus box plus a 4 pack mix/broadband/basic talk package. Waiting for a BT line to be put in in a few days so installation due to take place after that.
I phoned today to cancel the order and ask for a refund for the sky plus box because my income has gone down quite a bit and was reluctant to commit to paying two months in advance in a couple of weeks time. First of all they offered me the Sky plus box for £49 instead of £99.., then when I said thank u very much but I still wanted to cancel being unsure of what my income would be in two weeks time.., they offered me the skyplus box for free - said they will refund the amount I paid for the box.
In spite of my good intentions.., I found I could not refuse. Did not realise they would make that kind of an offer altho I realise others have come across better offers from reading this thread prior to posting this.0
