I gave him the well constructed reasons suggested on the forum -
    i) young children watch free channels (cbeebies) and i dont get a look in day time.
ii) my video broken and i decided to get a freeview box with hard disk as its really cheap.
iii) sad to loose sky but cant justify the cost of £99 + £60 installation.

    Hi,

Followed this to a tee and managed to get Sky Plus for £49 inc installation and also managed to bag Sky multi-room for only £5 a month. On the phone for 30minutes getting it sorted but I think worth it in the long run :T

all sky boxes turn themselves to standby after midnight if you are not watching the tv, its a power saving thing thats programmed into the boxes
The technician from Eastern Europe who installed my Sky+ box, told me that it used as much power in standby as during operation. I didn't believe him but does anyone know how much current it uses on standby and how much when working ? My box emits a humming sound even in standby. (It is 2 months old).

PS. I find it amazing that some people on these threads seem to be just waiting for an opportunity to criticise others as in the red rabbit29 example. This is supposed to be a money saving site and we should support people's efforts, not criticise them!

Sky+ and Sky+HD boxed do use less power when in standby as the hard drive is not active.

I was being cruel to be kind, and providing feedback to a user who posted a draft of a letter he was going to write to Sky.

The letter wasn't well written and I made the clear. I'm sure a better chance of success would be had if the letter was well written and clear.

  • Keeping the thread alive LOL...
I got the 3 quid deals, but all I asked for was a bit more for the 17 quid I was already paying, you know a couple of mixs added on for free, op said they didn't have any such offer, only the 3 quid deal! D'oh! I'll take it... would have been better for sky to keep my 17 quid and give me those extra channels, not loss 14 quid:confused:

Yes, but did you need to mention the "by a five year old" bit ?? If you can't see that as rude and sarcastic, you need to go back to school yourself.

Once you are up & running on the new deal, phone them and ask how much extra to add the mixes you want.
They might only want a couple of quid per month. Worth a try!

  • I managed to get the £3 deal twice. We were away for nearly 6 weeks (have no idea if they can tell the sky wasn't used)? Missed by a day the deadline to have sky cancelled so was charged £17- went out of bank on the day after I phoned.

Can anyone tell me exactly when you should phone to cancel? I don't mind paying £3 a month BUT find there are FAR too many repeats plus most of what we watch is on freesat. PLUS if we do get to cancel do we need another card or will the one we already have suffice for freesat?

We only bothered with Sky initially as we are in a very bad reception area - it worked out cheaper getting Sky than having a new aerial.

  • Am coming to end of 3 months for £3 deal with Sky. Are they offering anything else at the moment? What is the best number to call them on please. Thanks.
