A big thank you to all of you who have posted about reducing the package costs. I have just called a lovely lady in scotland who reduced my sky movies package to £25 per month. Not as good as some but I'm happy. She also told me to make a not and phone back after the 3 months to ask if the offer can be extended.

So thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

  • rang sky the other day the cancel they asked why told them i could not afford it trying to cut cost they told me if i had my phone line with them they would give me 12 months free line rental but can only do it if i have sky movies turned on so i did left it 1 week and called the cancel the movies asked why i told them cost i was then told i could have the movies for £3 a month for the next 3 months i dont really watch the movies so i asked can you do that with sky sports was told yes so now got sky sports for £3 a month bargin i am happy
  • The only reason I got sky was because the freeview signal has basically broken due to some nearby building work. It was fine for the first year, year and a half. But the last 6 months it has been too poor to watch, kept jumping around.

Have you tried a signal booster? My grandparents had trouble with their freeview signal and a booster really helped sort it out. Saying that a lot of areas still have patchy coverage around here and meaning as the government is planning to switch of analogue soon it could lead to a lot of trouble for some people

Not really, have a look here for your transmitter http://www.ukfree.tv/starthere.php
When each set of analogue channels is switched off the power output for digital channels will substantially increase, this is the increase for ours when it's switched off in 2011....Freeview power increase from 8166 W to 174000 W, 21 times stronger

i'm quite happy to watch freeview rather than pay a fortune.in september i received a fone call and the woman said would i be interested in a three month deal if she put a £50 credit on the account-course i said yes and got all mixes.i rang today cos the three months would be up in four weeks and after having a natter with a lovely woman she offered me the variety package £3 for three months.can't grumble @ a £1 a month
  • I rang last night and explained that i was struggling to pay my bills and that i had heard some people had got a discount for 3 months to help them out. I asked if i would be eligible for the discount and he said yes. My bill has been reduced by £17.00 pcm for 3 months! i didn't mention anything about cancelling my sky. Well worth the call!!
  • I got rid of SKY completely. I was payng £47 per month for 2 mixes, Sky Sports, SKY+ and a multiroom. When we looked at the SKY+ planner (which was 75% full) we found that apart from 4 weeks of un-watched Gladiators (the kids) everything that was recorded on series link (ie; the stuff we actually wanted to watch) was all on free to view channels. Admittedly I have kept Setanta, but £13 is much better value that £37.

Now we have changed one Sky box over to a HD Freesat box, and in 2 weeks or so I will be buying a Freesat+ box for the main TV to go with my new Samsung 50inch 1080p plasma.

My point? Don't get sucked into having SKY because you watch 1 or 3 things a week on non-Freesat channels. It has been surprising in the last month or 2 how many people have realised they are wasting £20+ a month for little return from SKY.

Did you get put through to cancellations or did you just speak to whoever answered the phone first. What number did you ring on. Cheers
