  • I cancelled with sky a couple of weeks ago and have 2 weeks of my notice period left. Is there any point in ringing back and asking for any deals?
BTW I live in Hull so I cannot get any broadband from anyone else than kingston communications so its only satellite channels I can negotiate on.
Old Faithful we roam the range together,
Old Faithful in any kind of weather,
When the round up days are over,
And the Boulevard’s white with clover,
For you old faithful pal of mine.
  • Just gotta say I'm well made up :T

The man came to install sky+, very nice man.

Got sky+ for £30 with 12 months free line rental.

Plus the man gave me an extra sky+ controller and installed my sky link for me too :T

    Cheers !
  • Called up on Sunday to cancel the movies as noone is watching them, got offered Movies and sports for £1 for 3 months with no tie ins, can cancel anytime before full payment is taken in Jan 09
Well I Love Tv And I Love T. Rex, I Can See Through Your Skirt I've Got X-Ray Spex
  • Last week I rang up Sky following the instructions on this board. Got a good deal for the installation of Sky plus with HD (£100 and if only Sky plus £65). They came this morning and can't install it for health and safety reasons. Rang up the local engineer as suggested and he quoted me £300. I politely said no.

How do I get Sky plus (cant get the plus sign up)? Would I be better off getting a DVD recorder or Play station 3?

If you are a first time customer there are better deals than this being referred, pm me if you want details, however was the H & S reason to do with height?
EDIT - re read the post current offer for HD is £105 with standard installation so my apologies if you thought I led you to believe you could get cheaper than this
I had this from Sky and got a local installer to do it for their standard cost - might be worth ringing around?
Did the Sky guys just say "no" and walk away?
  • Thanks for replying mymate.

I'm an existing customer for years and years. We had all the channels and an extra box. I've cut down from last week to get a better package. Offered me the Sky plus with HD. Agreed. Paid. When the bloke came to install it he looked at the dish which is placed under an upstairs window (2nd floor). We have the conservatory under this which has a small side excess. He said he couldn't get the ladder down the side safely and he wouldn't do the install via the window. Sky have promptly refunded.

Rang the local installer and he quoted £300 and this was a deal! I'm so disappointed and mad. I'm now going to cancel the extra box and may consider switching to Virgin - if he wants to watch a match he can go down the pub.

Surely the lastest dvd recorders can pause live TV?

Silly question but how did the dish get put up in the first place?
I would try ringing a couple of other places just to see what they say.

After all you only want a new LNB and some new cable
  • Thanks Andybk.

The previous installers opened the window and worked on the dish from there. There was no problem doing this and they certainly didn't risk life and limb. It was originally put there because that was were the best signal came from. We did point out that a conservatory would eventually go there.

When I said this to the installer this morning, he hummed and hahed (it's so distressing to see this in such a young bloke), and said that they had broken health and safety rules. Naughty.

I've found someone who will get the gubbins installed for £60 and I'll get a sky plus box from ebay (they go for around 50-60 quid). People sell them when they update to HD.

Or failing that go for the DVD HD recorder.
  • I cancelled my sky as it wasn't value for money. Got loads of calls to resubscribe but refused. Then got an offer for sky+ and 2 mixes for £18. I only want the sky+ box and it would cost me the same to get a freeview+ box so I took the offer.
I will cancel in 12 months and use it as freesat+. (yes, you can do this).

Sky's platform is better, more reliable and easier to use than Freeview.

how do you use sky plus without sky sub ie freesat plus thanks
