  • Hi.I called them today and asked them if there was any way I could reduce the cost of my services with them.First of all when they found out I had a secondary box in my sons room they gave me a £5 off every month fior 6 months (usually its £10.00 a month) then I was asked if I wanted to change my line rental from BT to Sky because I could get 12 months line rental free from sky!!So by my calculations one phone call saved me £30 for the multiroom discount and a massive £132 for the line rental!!I am impressed. Thanks Martin for this tip!!

    hi

I have a sky + box downstairs and a sky box installed upstairs with Multi room

I face some significant financial cutbacks right now, so wonder can I go to freesat and would I be charged to keep multi room? and can I keep box's? and will sky + still work?

    thnanks

You can cancel your subscription and you'll be able to keep both boxes and watch the free channels on both, but you'd need to pay £10 a month to use the Sky+ features.

The alternative would be taking the minimum 1-mix subscription of £17. This would only be available on one box though. To get this on both boxes you'd also need the to pay the £10 multi-room charge.
  • Just tried to reduce our package which we pay £18 per month but was told the deal was only for the premium packages .........
  • Interestingly we had a leaflet through the door for sky+ for £49 we live in Wales and as we are losing our analogue signal next year they are doing a promotion, you can also get sky+ for £49 if you are an exisiting customer and subscribe to multiroom, no use to me as we have both but the interesting thing is that on the leaflet they are quoting multiroom lite, when I checked apparently it's if you only have sky in one extra room and sub to the entertainment channels only (£10 if you have sport and movies), I can't find out if we are eligible for multiroom lite as account is in hubby's name and he's away at the mo but will be checking when he gets home
  • I rang up and said I had had an offer from BT Vision and Virgin for free installation and that I could not afford the cost of installing a Sky plus box but would prefer to stay with Sky but obviously the way money is etc etc,I may have to cancel.
Was immediately offered a free Sky plus box plus free installation! no probs at all.
Fitting it next week. Thanks to OP.

I called up yesterday after reading this.
We have six mix plus sport (plus setanta) so our sky costs £40 per month (not including setanta!)
I told the Indian guy who answered that I couldn't afford £40 per month anymore & asked what they could offer. He was not keen to offer much then said I could have free movies for 3 months (catch being that if you don't cancel in time then you are charged more in the end!)
He passed me through to someone else who after much pleading offered me a reduced rate of £25 for 3 months for the same package i'm on now.
Really happy with that £45 saving!
If you can't be nice then stay silent
  • Just called to ask for special offer and the Indian call centre just said that we were on the minimum package already and there was nothing she could do to save us money.

She pointed out that we are not charged for Sky+, but I thought that this is now free to everybody anyway. We have never had any special offers and I am a pretty fed up Sky customer. It seems unfair that some folks are offered discounts and many also have access to the free broadband that we do not get.

Did you not read my post? Don't bother yakking to the Indian call centre operatives. Ask to be put through to Cancellations. That's how you get a deal out of Sky - you talk to Cancellations and threaten to cancel.

  • Thats what I did call cancellations, I got as said above free sky plus box and free fitting. #117
  • I rang Sky last week, saying that i wanted to cancel as i was feeling the pinch with tv payments (£20 pm for 4 packages, excluding sports and movies). Initially i was offered a deal on movies and sports as an add on, but i said i wasnt interested. The call centre couldnt offer anything more, so i asked to be put through to cancellations.

Although they couldnt give me any more off my tv, i took them up on the sky talk and surf package - they threw in unlimited daytime calls for 1 year free (normally £5 pm) and free line rental for a year (£10 pm), saving me quite a bit on BTs line rental, phone and broadband charges. Just hoping the broadband service will be ok!

The lady on the phone said there was no lock-in with the contract after the 12 months too.
