Does anyone buy frozen mince...

I find any sort of frozen mince just turns to mush and tastes horrible - it really is not worth the saving. If money is that tight it is better to use less fresh mince and add more to it.I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0

I also don't like to buy ready frozen mince. I do freeze fresh mince, but then it isn't free flow.
The Tesco value fresh mince has a high proportion of fat. I remember when I bought mince when first married - 1968 - and it always cooked with lots of fat coming out. In those days we just stirred it back in!!!!!!
It wasn't until we went to New Zealand in 1970 that I was able to buy good beef.
I do like to see the fat content on the front of the pack.0 -
i used to buy value tesco mince about 7 years ago. hubby and i just bought our first home and money was tight. loads of fat came out of it, but used to drain it. since then as money has got better we now only eat steak mince.
i couldn't go back to it. but at the time it served a purpose and we were happy with it. althouht i did find after a while it started having hard bits in it which it didn't at first. so this made us change what we had.
but when money been tight in recent years i have used it as cat food, as it a handy standby to keep in, if i have run out of cat food. as tin's at our local shop are nearly 70p each.0 -
After watching Jamie Oliver: Eat to save your life on TV last night I will always buy the dearer mince and pad it out with vegetables.0

I've only ever used this once and never again - it went to mush and had no taste at all. Plus there was the fact it felt like only one step up from the meat that goes into dog food.
I understand that for some it is a budgetary concern - however I'd rather not eat mince/meat and cook something with pulses than eat value mince again.Comps £2016 in 2016 - 1 wins = £530 26.2%

Butchers mince or nothing here I might say - it can be padded out with loads of veg and soya mince too to make it go further but it is tastySaving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

Just out of interest, how cheap was it?
I bought some lovely mince from the butchers (beef!) for £1.12 a lb on Friday. Put 10lbs in the freezer. It will make at least 15-20 meals for 4 people (so about 60-80 single portions) depending on what I do with it, and I thought it was a good buy.
That's why I'm keen to know how cheap is cheap.
£1.40 for 1kg so 56p a Lb? Sorry don't know my conversions!0 -

I have bought it in the past when we have had little money. It does have a lot of fat/water in it though and needs to be drained. We dont often have minced beef (only for lasagne really) but do prefer steak mince which is still quite reasonable.

Ugh, sounds horrible. Remember that mince itself is probably the cheapest cut of meat, so value mince is even worse. I suspect the stuff is made up of all the gristle, sinews, hooves, etc of low-grade livestock that can't be used for anything else, reconstituted and bulked out with soya.
You're better off, IMO, getting good mince from a butcher, and padding it out with TVP or similar. Alternatively, if you need a cheap substitute for mince, corned beef is quite good.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0
