Me again? Can you tell I'm on a mission?

How long can you keep frozen mince for? One month, three months etc.

It's on special offer in Tesco.

It depends on your freezer. I think the average is about 6 months. Though I've kept mince longer than that and its been fine.
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

If it's previously fresh mince that you've frozen yourself, the packet usually says you should use it within a month. I have kept it longer than that, but the older it is, the less flavour it has when I do come to use it.

Hi all, I bought some fresh mince and shoved it in the freezer. Forgot to take it out to defrost:rolleyes: Can I cook it from frozen, shallow fry it with some onions and garlic till it is soft,or should i defrost it in the microwave? I was going to add it to a bolognese sauce with some chopped mushrooms and some red peppers? My excuse for not starting to cook yet :D so as soon as i get the answer i will be cooking (honest!!) Thanks

I would defrost in the microwave first but I have been known to hack away at the bit from the middle in the pan!

hiya:D my other half always throws the frozen pack of mince in the pan and i stand there aghast looking at his culinary prowess lol:rolleyes: i would never recommend it but his spag bol always turns out ok he does however have to batter the mince to within an inch of its life to get it into smallish lumps :rotfl: whilst it is frying. im sure it would turn out ok eventually, just make sure it is thorougly (sp) cooked before eating.

  • I generally always cook from frozen. Never had any problems. If I am lucky enough to buy some fresh reduced mince then we sometimes eat the same day so cook from fresh, but this is rare. Tastes ok either way.

We tend to eat lamb mince only as my tummy doesnt like too much beef. Saying that, I do have 3 packets of organic beef mince reduced to 35p a box 250g in the freezer.

Well,i shoved the square hard block in the frying pan and for about five minutes wished i hadnt, but as the outsides cooked, i scraped it off and kept turning the block till it got brown then chiselled more off, after doing this for about 15 minutes, all the meat got brown, I drained off the excess liquid, then mixed in 1 red onion chopped, 1 yellow pepper and three large mushrooms, then added a jar of chilli sauce and let it all cook for 40 minutes just to be on the safe side. Tasted brilliant!!
Learnt my lesson and remembered to defrost chicken thighs for tonights dinner!! Thanks to all for the advice.

In Morrisons yesterday I saw big bright yellow bags of bettabuy (value) mince. It was very cheap and didn't actually specify (anywhere on the front) exactly what animal the mince was of....

...who buys this and why? Is it all down to budget, and can anyone bear eating what surely must be the lowest of the low grade 'meat' - personally I'd rather have veg than eat that (and yes I have tried it a few years ago at uni...never again)
