Well well well Soctish Power - that touches a nerve or two - are you sitting confortably I'll tell you my story...

One day (over two years ago) while shopping in sainsbugs, I was cornered by a young lady, (dont get excited its not that kind a story) - this young lady wanted me to sign up to scotish power stating that they would not be beaten on price and as a bonus they where will to throw in a 1000 or so sainsbugs points or whatever they where two years ago.

To my wifes horror - out came my psion (its a small computer for all you with dirty minds) and I proceded to argue as to why they where not cheaper than Virgin.

Anyway not being a very good at negatiation (or spelling come to that) and along with the promise of a cooling of period - this lady managed to convince me - and I signed the dotted line.......

Well in the light of day I checked my sums - Yes they where cheaper but... there was a little piece of small print and a tick required "I APPLY FOR THE LOW USERS DISCOUNT" now as i understood it, anyone could tick this box and the service charge would be removed this then resulted in a massive £6.32 saving per year. (not including the sainsbugs voucher.

Anyway I decided that this wasn't good ethical business tactics on SP part so I signed and returned the cancellation form (free post I might add)

Now cutting a even long story shorter
    1) They didnt action the letter
    2) One e-mail from me to explaining the situation
    3) One e-mail from me asking for an eronious transfer back to Virgin and informing them that i will not be contacting them again
    4) Every 6 months a telephone call form SP asking why I hadn't paid anything - which would always end in "I ll rectify the problem Sir"
    5) 6 weeks ago problem corrected

    The outcome

Not paid for any elec or gas for over two years
    Money earning interest
Now paying Virgin back at £40 per month - I recon it will take almost three half years to be straight - Im going to try it again in six months - I think I was bit sarcastic with an SP operator - I think she made a mission to sort the issue.
O yes 1000 sainsbugs vouchers that I forgot to send back

PS If you could all move to SP for your electricity and gas please I would be most appreciative - I've got shares in the company!
Advice is cheap! Hence their is a lot of it about!

This should be the final post from me in this thread.

Rejoice I have received the final account bill.......but I still had to phone Scottish Power up to double check.

Not only had they sent the revised bill but the had also sent other bills also saying I was £348 in credit and this said it was a final bill.

It transpires that only the bill for just under £45 is the final one, the rest where summaries of the account over the last 2 years. Another administration error ::) ::)

Spookily, we left Scottish Power 2 years to the day that we moved into our house.

    cheers

I am fed up with Scottish Power, since taking over my account a few months ago they have done their best to get up my nose.

The latest is for two months running they have debited my account of £20 a month when it should be nearer £50.  I rang them last month and they said they had sorted it, obviously not cause ive got to ring them again.

This is doing my damned head in, just checked my bank account and even though i rang them off last month to query why they arent taking the money out of my account I was assured it was now sorted. They have done the same damned thing again. At this rate i am going to end up owing them a fortune.

Question 1 - Does there ever come a point in time where SP cannot reclaim old monies? - If not can you imaging how fast they would sort out your problem if you applied for a test case ruling to be heard in court,
for all money over six months to be unclaimable

Question 2 - Is there a way of legally charging SP for all the work you do on there behalf - ie writing letters, telephone calls, etc? Hell if a solictor can charge £100 + per letter Im sure I could!

I've just had an e-mail welcoming me, and saying the changeover will take another 6-8 weeks.

Joined up at the beginning of the year and not happy over a number of issues (most mentioned above, so won't go into detail!).

What really worries me is the vast number of us who are being referred to Scottish Power as being the cheapest supplier for gas and/or electricity. Even if they are the cheapest (and this seems very questionable in many cases), the standards of service are appalling and a lot of us are spending a lot of time and money now trying to find yet another supplier!

I presume there's a regulator/Ombudsman somewhere on the distant horizon? Are they not doing their job? Are we not complaining to the right people? Why do SP appear as the cheapest supplier when they're so often not?

    Something's very wrong somewhere ...

    Wins since 2009 = £17,600

i had a cold caller this afternoon from Scottish power, asking why hadnt i responded to the information they had sent.

i said well, I dont pay any money to scottish power, so i probably recycled it.

he then showed me what was sent, i didnt remember seeing it.

he then asked to see some old bills, i thought ok.. so of i went, at this point i had already decided he was trying to get me to sign up with them, therefore i wasnt going to sign anything.... we chatted and he did some quick figs, and yes they looked good, so i asked for a price guide and i wuold call him back....

doing some number chunking tonight..... scottish power will save me possibly..... £20 for gas & electric over the whole year.... having read threads on this web site, for the sake of £20, less than £2 a month I cant be bothered with switching and possibly getting all the hassle...... although i will now check uswitch.com or whatever the website is called.
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

In what way are they not the cheapest, though? Surely if you enter the number of kWh of power you actually use into the websites, and SP's published tariff+standing charge etc IS the cheapest for that amount of usage, how can they not be the cheapest supplier?
