:'(I think Im as confused as everyone else, I switched to Amerada last year who then got taken over by Powergen. Ive had a number of visits from a little man from Scottish power, scaring me with stories of Powergen increasing prices by 20%, is this true and will I be better off going with the capped rate offered by Scottish Power. I get both gas and lecky on a direct debit payment. Please Please help a drowning man. ???0

Dog (can I call you Dog? ;D) the same happened to us, when Powergen took over the price went up by about £20 a month (duel fuel). It's a pain changing to SP, but I've stuck with it because everyone says they're cheaper, including the online calculator
I'm not sure about Powergen's price rises :-/

Oh well, i am well and trully stuffed now.
Yesterday i applied to manage my ScottishPower account online. I went through all the details on the website, and just as i had submited the details. I got a lovely 'Thankyou' message, telling me they were now going to end my old agreement and continue with the new one.
Nothing wrong with that, you may say, but since they have only just set up the direct debit for the gas (which took them three months to do), i think they will probably now send me settlement bills. Which at the moment, i will struggle to pay without breaking into my savings.
Oh why did i do it? I was hoping the gas would break even over the course of the next 6 months or so.
Have any of you who manage your bills online had to pay a settlement bill from one package to another? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I was tempted with a £30.00 cash back from Simply Switch and the cheaper prices from Powergem then I realised that due to the mess a certain company got me into I would wind up paying a few lump sums so changing is not an option at the moment.Rememember. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.
Never pass up an opportunity to go to the bathroom.

The lesson to learn from this as pointed out around the same time last year on the forum is that its always better to transfer after the summer then at least the bills would be less when transfering.
Now I have visions of Judis hubby nursing a sore head after hitting the roof. As you are with in the time you can still cancel and stay with your original billing company until the bills lower, give them a call.Rememember. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

They would still want the settlement if i left them, and i still want to manage my bills online, i was hoping by doing this, i wouldnt have any nasty suprises waiting for me like this one. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. i was with SP for 9 months, switched to them after a comparison website told me they were the cheapest. they told me they're so cheap that my direct debit can be lower than the direct debit to my old supplier - after just 9 months i now owe them 200!! this is an online account, with whatever duel fuel and direct debit discounts were available. hmmm .... i haven't checked out the prices properly yet though, maybe the figures are correct but my rabbit has chewed through a gas pipe and we're now using twice as much lol! we got a combi boiler 8 months ago, i'd have expected my bills to come down :-(
anyway, what i wanted to say is i was persuaded to sign up with powergen for their tesco points. the powergen website said 'sorry, we're actually £35 a year more expensive than SP, but you do get lots of tesco points'. tesco points are worth 4 times as much in clubcard deals, so for twenty squid in points you can buy an annual pass for tussauds, that's cheaper than a single visit to alton towers.
sorry, went off topic again. powergen started the transfer process, and scottish power just won't leave me alone!! in the last 7 days i've had 5 letters telling me i've made the wrong decision and i should transfer back to them, and i've had 3 phone calls! do these people not get the message?! i REALLY resent being called at home. i asked them to stop calling me today, but i bet they don't. their call centre people probably just get a list of everyone who's cancelled recently and go through them all, meaning i'll get called every day for the rest of my life! This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
