Yes i honestly think it is worth changing suppliers. I have done it on a periodical basis over the last few years with great success. The only problems i have had is from SWALEC and SCOTTISH POWER. They seriously need to get their act together as the right hand never knows what the left hand is doing.
I still say the main ways to save money with utilities though, is through actually using less rather than just changing over. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Excellent point!
But we all want more for our money don't we??? ;Dif i had known then what i know now0 -
I have signed up with about 5 different providers over the last couple of years. British Gas were by far the worst and Scottish Power were the best (especially as they sorted out my problems with British Gas!). Just switched back to Scottish Power today but am now using their on-line service so it will be interesting to see if the service is to the same standard I've experienced in the past. At the end of the day it is saving me money and isn't that the name of the game?Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0

I have also been underwhelmed since changing from Powergen to SP earlier this year. The DD payments they are taking should have been less than Powergen & they are taking the same as Powergen did! So in terms of outgoings I have had zero benefit although I do expect to see the benefit eventually.
The other thing that got my goat was that they took £78 from my bank account for the 1st months payment 3 DAYS AFTER my account was activated with them. So in the month I moved from Powergen my monthly payments were £156 instead of £78 - that really eased the cashflow ........not. >:(0 -
Excellent point!

Yeah thats why i keep shopping around but i am not going to put up with this messing around for too much longer. I will give them 6 months and if they dont measure up they are out the door!!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Hey! I used one of the comparison sites and it estimated a saving of over £100 a yr with Scottish Power - great I thought! However, I too found the DD they wanted were too low (lucky I checked) - now they are charging me about £100 MORE than British Gas were!!! >:(
Also, and even worse, I found I was unable to put meter readings in or access my account online, as I was not getting paper bills I was keen to keep track of my account. I questioned this with Scottish Power and when I finally got a reply they told me that because I had a multi-dial meter I could not use the online service-even though it was an online account!!!!
I am currently returning to British Gas - at least I never felt tricked or duped by them. Would not recommend Scottish Power at all.:coffee: I love saving money!0 -

Re my previous posts on the 29th April and 4th May.
Received an email today from Scottish Power as follows;
'We need to do some additional work to make your account available online'
This is nearly 5 months since I transferred and have still to receive a bill. Just HOW MUCH WORK does it take to transfer an account.
I am at the point of despair. Much more of this and I'm going back to British Gas. At least I had a bill every quarter.
Will keep you updated should I be lucky enough to get a bill before 2005!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
Just to further update everyone with the ongoing saga of my'transfer' from Scottish Power.
After my original post above, my fiancee and I checked out USwitch and found that lo and behold, SP were the cheapest supplier in our area but because of their 'customer service' we wouldn't be using them, Seeboard were next cheapest and the promise of Nectar points for every quarter (I think) that we take our utilities from them tipped the balance in Seeboard's favour.
That was in March.......... can you guess what happened next??? ::)
After getting the gas switched back in late March early April from npower we had heard nothing from Seeboard about the electricity so we checked it out, "we haven't had a final reading from your exisiting supplier". We gave Seeboard a reading there and then and assumed that was it, they would get in touch with SP and sort it all out, we would pay the final bill and everyone would be happy.
How wrong we were, a final bill arrived today for over £600!!!!! >:( >:( >:(
Back on the phone to SP who claimed that all the readings were estimated because there was no reading given to them by the new supplier. Sound familiar to anyone?
Anyway after I explained to the customer service agent the previous history of the account, she went away and checked all the details. To give her credit were it is deserved, she came back and in a round about sort of way admitted that SP had c***ed it all up and she would clsoe the account today with the reading that I had given her.
The two 'readings' were 13,000 units apart. My final bill with SP is now just under £45. While it is a little more than I would have liked, balanced against over £600 I'll take it jsut to be shot of them.
My advice to anyone is always always double check every reading that you are sent by your utility supplier and call them straight away if the bill is wrong. Don't let them fob you off, fight and argue your case in a polite but assertive manner and you will win, after all isn't the customer always right?

As a slight aside I should admit to the fact that one of my previous employers was Scottish Power Retail before it was bought out by Powerhouse a couple of years back.
As has been atested to by other salespersons for other companies on these boards, everyone is set a target to meet and if they didn't meet a target then no bonus for you!
I worked for SP Retail for 10 hours at the weekends and I would have to 'sell' the benefits of Gas & Electric from Scottish Power to every customer that walked in the store - and I was just an admin clerk!!
I felt so sorry for the customers, they would turn up to the store, choose the appliance that they wanted, more often than not be signed into a credit agreement and then be sold Gas & Electric with the promise that they could change after a month if they wern't happy! If only it worked out that way!
I lost count of the number of customers that came in complaining that they wree now paying more than before, and all I could do was give them the number for customer service and apologise.
These were / are people that have built up a short but trusting relationship with the salesperson and then they get sold something that is going to cost them more on the promise that it is cheaper for them in th long run and it really wound me up!!!!
If only this site had been around then!
Apologies for the rant but it felt good to share.

P.S. Just to clarify I no longer work for or receive any of my utilites from Scottish PowerSnootch to the Nootch!0 -
