Today I got a quote direct from the Scottishpower website, and by switching from Pgen I could save £12 a year,(hardly worth the effort)
If I decide to run my Pgen account online,Pgen will give me another £10 discount per year, which just about covers the difference.
I read in todays Express about someone moving from B.Gas to Pgen happy to save money and on these boards people leaving Pgen to go to tom,!!!!!! and harry.
I also tapped into simplyenergy and they came up with a saving of £18 by going with London E(never heard of them).
The whole process of finding another supplier is a complete sham, incidently has anyone ever found that they could`nt make a saving by switching?
These comparison sites would`nt have a vested interest by people switching would they?
Everyone's usage patterns will be different and the prices also differ depending on which are you live in, hence some people will be moving to Powergen (for instance) while many will be moving away..
London E sounds like London Energy which is London Electricity's new name
Also, I have previously been told that it woudnt be worth it for me to change (when I was with Amerada) so while these engines have a "vested interest" - there is some regulation there as well0 -
I am with Scottish Power for my Gas. I have just switched to an online account, for which they give you a discount of £10.50 per year. They ask you to enter your meter reading online so they can activate your online account and generate your first bill. I applied for the online account on 31st December, and am still unable to input my meter reading. Having emailed them yesterday, I received a reply asking me to retry in 5 days time as they need to remove an error on my account or something. It must be a pretty serious error to take 5 days to fix!!!! However, being an optimist...I'm hoping that once I am activated, the online system will make my life easier. Rather than having to wait for your quarterly bill, you can apparently submit meter readings as and when you like and therefore reduce the impact of your quarterly bill. I will post again when my account is finally activated!!!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

??? My experience is not good. Having used a couple of sites it looked like Scottish Power could be saving me money - £111 a year according to their own calculator. I have just had my first dual fuel bill and works out to be £5 a month MORE than British Gas would have been for next year !
Having converted, can I unconvert ?

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Reading all your remarks about Scottish Power have given me 15 minutes entertainment and a good laugh.
(probably better than tonight's Corrie)
In the main we have all been like sheep.(based on useage/cost we all hope we have done the right thing)
We who have changed suppliers have no history of previous dealings with Scots Power.
No doubt we will all learn shortly and keep each other similarily entertained.
Will keep you posted.

I know what you mean, i am beginning to regret my move but i will keep smiling cause it is meant to be the cheapest for me, but sorting up all the C0ck ups is becoming almost on a daily basis.
Last week i phoned Scottish Power to pay a quarterly bill of over £200 (because they and Swalec had been taking money out of my account for the same utility, so i stopped the direct debits).
Then i remembered i didnt think i had given them my bank details so rang them again. After another half an hour sorting out the DD she girl gave me another agreement number which i thought nothing of at the time.
Later i phoned them back up cause i didnt want to cancel the old agreement, just wanted to pay the old one by DD. Then i was told the previous representative had got me mixed up with another road, with a very similar name and he would cancel the new agreement as it was a mistake. Again i went through the details, blah blah blah and all was well.
Until yesterday that is when they send me a letter saying they are going to start taking £20 a month out of my account for the Direct Debit!!! £20 in utilities i can use in a day!!! (well maybe an overstatement) but they had told me they thought i should be paying £45 i told them i would pay £80 as i know how high my bills are.
Obviously they still hadnt got it right, so i rang them back yesterday, and they have a DD set up for £60 on their screen.

Oh dear. I wish I'd read all these messages before we switched to Scottish Power online for gas and electric just over a month ago.
The actual switch went ok, but we received documentation that said we'd be paying quarterly, rather than monthly. We rang and pointed out the error, but the next time we heard from them, it still said the same thing! So rang again...
Then, when they notified us of our monthly DD amounts, they were more than we'd been paying with British Gas and Powergen!! However, to their credit, when we rang to dispute the proposed DDs, they very obligingly substantially reduced them.
We've also had problems accessing the online account and asked them to check it out when we rang last weekend about the DDs.
All in all, it's been a bit of a hassle. Let's hope over the year, we actually do save the money we're meant to be saving.Carpe diem0 -
Dancing Queen i have learned that they quote you a really low rate when you first come over to them, to make you feel satisfied you have done the right thing. Then after the first year if you are not vigilent, the payments have remained low, when you should have paid more and you end up with a huge bill at the end.
Thats why i disputed the original figure quoted to me, i know that my actual usage is around £80 a month for both utilities. At £45 a month i would have had to have paid a huge amount at the end of the year. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
