Tesco Internet Saver card reader security

Exactly! When my card reader arrives I fear it will be another phone call to ask what I have to do with it :rotfl:
Supposedly they will send you a card to use in your card reader. So basically I have to have a card that i don't want anyway - it makes you wonder sometimes!
My son's fiancee had fun with a card reader recently. She had her purse stolen with her nationwide card in it. Of course when she tried to move her money from her account into my son's account so she could access it, it would not let her without putting her stolen card into the card reader!0 -

When I got mine it came with a little instruction leaflet on how to use it. The card has it's own PIN - yet another thing to remember! I had to change the contrast on the reader at first so I could read the display clearly.0 -
I finally received my "Internet Banking Card" this morning. Now just need to wait for my pin no. and card reader.0

I got my "Internet banking Card" this morning too. Just need my pin and then I could at least try it with my Nationwide card reader as I'm told you can use any UK card reader.0

Thanks, I think I will try it with my Nationwide reader too.0

Yep, got my card today too but the letter said "Please find enclosed your replacement card". I'm afraid I saw red and rang them up to ask what exactly it was replacing as I've never received a card previously nor have I received the card reader, and had they sent this because I wrote to them on 9th September giving them 7 days to get my account up and running or I'd take my money elsewhere.
Spoke to a very helpful young lady who promised to get a card reader posted special delivery today - we'll see if it arrives tomorrow.
What has really pee'd me off is the fact that the money for the deposit on a house I am buying, which had to be paid on Monday, is locked away in this account and I couldn't access it  . I had to arrange for the money to be made available from elsewhere - good job I had a backup plan!0 -
While I don't blame people for being peeved about the lack of information about rolloutsj, the card reader does block one gaping security hole in the Tesco account. Before you just needed the user number, password and PIN to be able to send money to anyone you like. Most other savings accounts are on the 'nominated account' basis so you can only send money to yourself.
If someone stole these credentials (with a keylogger virus, say) they could empty your account very fast. With the card reader it's quite a bit harder because you have to steal/hack the customer's card too, and that's not something you can do from your criminal lair in Russia or China. So the card reader should generally be a good thing.
From an internet security point of view, having your card PIN set to 1234 is actually fine if it never leaves your house, because the hacker never sees your card PIN and can't access your card. It's only a problem if you think it's going to be stolen or 'borrowed' by someone else, and they can only steal money by knowing your password and internet PIN too. So even a card PIN of 1234 is more secure than the original non-card system.
If later they start allowing you to use your card in cashpoints or similar then a PIN of 1234 is a problem if someone steals your card and uses it in an ATM (where they don't need your internet login details to withdraw cash).0 -

I don't have a problem with the security side of it, that's a good thing. My problem is having my money locked away while they cobble up the whole system of getting the card reader out to you.
After waiting 31 days (and it states 14 days on the website) I finally got a promise yesterday (after they checked that there was one in stock) that it would be posted special delivery and would arrive by 1pm today. I explained that I had a dental appointment and could they inform the carrier that next door (a shop open all day) would accept delivery. They said that would be fine. I put a large notice on my door, written in red marker pen, to say delivery should be to next door at "named shop" and I made sure the shop owner was happy to accept it.
Lo and behold, when I get back at 3pm no delivery to next door but a card through my door saying they'd attempted delivery but no-one was in and ring 0870 xxxxxxx to rearrange delivery or go onto their website. So, either the delivery man was blind, illiterate or stupid.
OK, failed delivery was not Tesco's fault, but the length of time I've had to wait most definitely is and they made it very difficult for me to pay the deposit for my house purchase to boot.
I actually wrote to the Sunday Times financial problems column about this the day before my "replacement" card (without card reader) arrived, just hope they take the case up and publish it, maybe that will shake Tesco Finance up a bit.0 -
After waiting for 18 days...."replacement card" arrived. Still need to wait for the "pin". Although I got the card reader which was for the previous saving account. I was very lucky, I set up the payment to my First Direct current before the card reader in force. So I can transfer between Tesco saving account with First Direct account. I found it recently the financial organisation very inefficient.
Applied HSBC current account over 1 months, although approved, sent back signature form twice still waiting for anything to arrive.
Barclays Credit card, after 1 month, my new card and pic finally arrived.
Capital one saving account, after 1 month, still waiting for the pin to arrive for my internet banking.
I even start thinking wether my posts got stolen?!0
