Tried adding a new payee and got the message about a card reader so it won't even let me send money to another account?!!
I have read through this thread but don't even understand what the card reader. I have ordered one though...
It took them 18 days to send me my internet banking card and 20 days to send me my pin number. I've still not received my card reader but luckily I can use my Nationwide Building Society card reader.
In the meantime, your money is stuck in the Internet Saver account. You could try calling them and if you're lucky, they might let you withdraw your money over the phone.0 -
So I need this 'thing' in order to withdraw money, I get that. But what is the card reader? What is the purpose of it? That's what I'm having a hard time understanding :S Is it just another password for extra security, or is it a physical card for withdrawing money? I'd never even heard of the term until today.
I never had any trouble setting up my account, in fact, it was very quick so I just hope this thing - whatever it may be - arrives soon.0 -

I assume it is like the one I just had from NatWest? Take a look at link for demo and all revealed!!A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. In latter part of career specialising in commercial - mostly business sales.0 -
Just in case some people are misunderstanding,it is still possible to transfer money online without a card reader to your nominated bank account. This is the bank account you 1st. used to pay in to Tesco.0

I can't transfer out anywhere without going through a manual procedure with a telephone operative.
Just thinking about it though, I initially funded the account with a BACS transfer from my current account but haven't yet used the direct debit 'pull' method (from that same current account). Maybe that's why?0 -

Neither have I. I can transfer money to my nominated account though without any need for a card reader.0 -

I wonder, then, if my problems have arisen because all I've ever done is pay money in.
Maybe they introduced the cardreader policy before I'd had chance to make any withdrawals (and hence start a payee list)?0 -

That's possible. When i first opened the account I did the usual transfer of £1 in either direction to make sure everything was working ok. Only when I was sure it was did I transfer a larger amount in.
I can transfer out to my nominated account but cannot set up a new payee - fortunately I don't need another one anyway. My card has arrived but just waiting on the pin.0 -

Thanks for that. I don't understand why I'd need one of those when it's an online account and I don't have a card for this account
I've never withdrawn money from this account before, and can't find anywhere that lets me withdraw money to my nominated account... all I see is a section that tells you to create a new payee, which it won't let me do without a card reader
ETA: Having read through everything, I think I understand it now. But will they send me an online banking card as well as the card reader? As I definitely don't have a card with this account...0 -
They will send you an "Internet Banking Card", a Pin No. and a Card Reader.
However, I ordered my card reader on the 1st of Sept and it still hasn't arrived. Luckily, I am able to use my Nationwide Building Society card reader with my Tesco internet banking card.0
