Hi, have had an avocado delivered in fruit/veg box this week, any ideas what I can do with it please. Have never eaten one before as always associated
them with fish/seafood which I do not eat. Looking for some nice simple recipees please.Jan Grocery challenge

Yum, I love avocado and would personally just cut it in half, take the stone out, then eat it with a teaspoon!!;)
However, recipe-wise, the most obvious one to go for is Guacamole:
2 small or 1 large avocados
2 medium tomatoes
1 fresh green chilli, seeded and chopped (or a pinch of chilli powder)
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
Lemon juice, salt, pepper
Peel and de-seed the tomatoes. Drain them and chop them roughly. Peel and mash the avocado. Mix all of the ingredients together, using the lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste. If you are refrigerating, keep covered with cling film.
Serve it on its own with whatever you fancy - bread, veggie crudités, crackers, nacho chips... - or with a "Mexican style" meal; its lovely on fajitas, tacos, nachos, etc.:D
Enjoy!

P.S. I took the above recipe from the Abel & Cole website - they have a really good recipe section, sorted by vegetable/fruit, so if I ever get something I don't know what to do with, I find its always a good place to start to give me a few clues...:rotfl:
Here's the Avocado page link:

I love avocado!!!
I spent 6 months in Chile last year, and they eat avocados all the time, we had some growing in the orchard! There are so many things you can do with them, my personal favourite is simply mashing it up, a little bit of salt & pepper, and spread it on toast - it's gorgeous.
They also mash it up and put it on burgers, hot dogs, i even had it on pizza.odi et amo0 -

Lots of lovely recipe's (and "sunny" pictures!!). A great thing to do with Avacado's is use them to give your hair an amazing conditioning treatment and shine. Mash the Avacado and rub it into your hair (it does look disgusting) and leave for 15 mins. Rinse it off and wash your hair as normal. This works really well on dark hair, but is great for lighter hair too.0 -
Hi Anne_Marie,
There's an older thread on avocado recipes that should help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.
