OS Daily Thread - Sunday 31st August

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 31st August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning everyone!!
It's too early to even guess what the weather might be like today, but right now there is a huge thunderstorm over head! Supposed to clear by 'morning' so I hope it does. I am longing to get out into the garden so keep your fingers crossed for a break in the rain for Torbay this afternoon!
I was woken up early by the OH coming home from his gig, so I made myself a cup of redbush tea and decided to come visit here as I missed an entire day yesterday! I have to admit to being at a bit of a loose end all day Saturday and didn't even come to check emails.. Somehow the computer seemed a lot less attractive without MSE on it! But now you are all back and next time there is even a suspicion of him doing it again, I am kidnapping you all and keeping you with me!
So what can I tell you all...? Oh yes, hadn't mentioned it before 'cos I wasn't sure if I was going to keep it but about a week ago I was given an old Hinari bread maker. But I am too scared to use it as I have never had one before... :rotfl: I think for now I will stick to hovis mixes and work my way up to real bread.. Have to buy some strong flour and yeast first of course...
I hope you all have a great day today. I will probably check back later on and read through and catch up with you all properly. I missed you all yesterday!
Hugs to all who need them and congratulations to anyone who is celebrating today.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Morning MSD and all who cross follow.

Don't what woke me up probably a snoring DH and a warm night

Have friends here for the weekend, so had no time to miss MSE yesterday, we have spent the last two evening playing on the Wii and Wii fit, I have to say I am definitely unbalanced, but have we had some laughs.
Went to a local country park/Museum of victorian life yesterday, only pay was parking. Then to a pub for a 2 for 1 lunch, to celebrate DH's birthday last Wednesday belatedly.
Nice to see you on yesterday evening Smoky, glad the uniforms are all sorted, and shoes and "liked".
Stef - Mr Caring Sharing sounds like a thoughtless "£$*"$^&. I am sure DD is OK though.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Morning girls, and good day to all who will follow.
Diva - What does your OH do?
Donny-gal - where's that museum of Visctorian life? OH has whole week off work and we're near Yorkshire so would be cool to check it out!
I'm very excited, got loads of plants off Freecycle yesterday. Got (baby) strawberry plants, chives, sage (call me stupid, I've no idea what to use sage for
), a couple other herbs I'd never heard of...
And some other plants, like lamb's ear - oh how gorgeous! I could touch it all day! Forget-me-nots, marigolds...
I'm really excited, but scared that the strawberry plants might not take off. They're only babies, and I just seem to ruin plants
...
Anyway, sky is clearing up... I do love this time of morning, just before dawn breaks... For some reason it reminds me of my childhood (no idea why, I was always sleeping!)

Sage is a really useful plant: grows all winter outside. I use it for obvious things like sage and onion stuffing ( always pick by moonlight on Christmas morning and feel like medieval witch) It is also used a lot in Italian cooking and you can make a fantastic focaccia with a topping of sage leaves, chopped red onion and black olives. It should grow into a large bush and is almost impossible to kill!0

donny-gal - Thanks for the PM, will run it past OH, hope he takes me :j
purpledaffodil - Thanks for the tips. It is huge and smells beautiful! Can you use in salads or tomato-based sauces?GC March Wk1 £28.72/£30 Wk2 £28.4/£29

Morning all,
well it is almost unheard of for me to be up at this time on a sunday, but I have managed to pick up OH's cold, and my throat is red raw, and I have the most terrible cough, I also seen to have pulled a muscle in my chest, because I have a terrible pain every time I cough. So I have come down to take a tablet and get a drink, hopefully the pain will wear off and I will be able to sleep a bit more.
Dont think I will be doing too much today, might have a potter in the garden, I need to put more earth on my winter spuds, and thin out my spinach but will see how I feel. OH is going to be cooking a roast chicken dinner with all the trimmings, will probably just flop on the sofa then.
I missed this site so much yesterday, kept thinking I would come on and see how you all were,
hey ho glad you are all back.
Diva I made my dad one of your Aunt sallys apple cakes and he loves it, has asked me for another, so thanks xx
Well I might try to sleep, pain is going a bit now, have good days all xx0 -
Morning peeps
I woke up at about half past four and took some more tablets.
DH is up and about now so he will be doing most of the heavy stuff today.
The wm is on and DH has just put the dw on and fetched me some toast.
Everything i do today will be one handed unless the swelling goes down:rolleyes:
I hate having things wrong with me as it interferes with everything so i shall ignore it as best i can and get on with the smaller jobs.
We have visitors coming later so i shall get stuck into the cleaning whilst DH walks the doggies, in fact i may go with him as it seems to be nice outside then i can hang out the washing when we get back.
Catch up later guys.
Have a lovely sunny Sunday and ((((hugs)))) for everyone.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon

I have never used it like that- the leaves I have are a bit tough for salads, but it might be worth a try with tomato sauce. Happy sage cooking!0

((((hugs)))) to those who can't sleep and are feeling a bit under the weather.
I am wide awake much earlier than usual. Had a nightmare
and couldn't get it out of my head when I woke up so after trying unsuccessfully to get back to sleep, I thought I'd just get up and have some tea. It's sooooooooo peaceful - even the dogs are all dozy (now that they've had their morning biscuits ).
I made a huge pot of spag bol yesterday as we were expecting DSS17 and his girlfriend and they eat a lot (and are skinny as anything
) BUT.....they changed their minds - something about having to babysit this morning but ah well. Anyway, the upshot of it is that we are having spag bol again for Sunday lunch. I added some previously frozen bolognaise sauce I'd made with soya, so can't freeze again. Still, that will make things easier for me. I might still get a chicken to roast this evening as we had chicken sandwiches to take to work last week until Wed and they were delicious.
Had a look at Le Crueset stuff in TKMaxx yesterday but it was all stonewear rather than cast iron, which is what I'm looking for. Really want a set of pants. Still, we are deliberately not buying anything this year as we move next year and plan to do it as minimally as poss. I am looking at it as the opportunity for me to down size a lot of my stuff. |I've already this this a lot this past year and am finally able to let more things go which belonged to my parents (now 12 and 14 years since they died). It was their deaths that I had the nightmare about this morning though which was really horrible. In fact it was so sad and made me feel so achingly sad that I soothed myself when I woke up by saying come on now, that can't happen because they're dead. It was almost like being glad that they were dead so I didn't have to go through it and that is certainly not how I usually think.
Ah well, back to plans for 'the move' - other things like our bed and fridge freezer are just about up for renewal anyway so can be left. It's not that I am a throw-away person who needs new things but our bed has gone soft and i don't see the point in replacing it just yet - we might change our mind on that one though if back ache sets in as sleep is important. DH and I have been togther for 10 years and married 6 - this will be the first time we have house hunted together and I am so looking forward to it.
Ok, I'm going to get another cup of tea and have a browse.
Hope everyone has a good day.
