    Hello all,

I've decided upon my first Grocery Challenge. It will be for me, DS (6) who is with me full time and DD (14) who lives between me and her dad so about 3 days a week.

I have a stupidly full freezer and store cupboard so I'm aiming for £100 this month. I'll pop a link in my sig shortly. :D
Aiming to be Debt free by October 2013 :D

Well my first spend for Septembers budget was £12.46.

I bought, dishwater tablets (asda smart price ones), shower cleaner, 6 pints f/f milk, 6 pints s/s milk, and yogurts (3 different kinds).

Someone was mentioning about crumbles, I love crumbles especially in the winder with custard. Does anyone have any different ideas to the normal crumbles, ie apple or rubarb?

  • hi all- wanted to ask , do any of you know a really good, nutritious, cheap etc cook book for students? My friends daughter is off to uni shortly and hasnt got a clue. I have given her a few recipes off here but wondered if there was a good book for total novices ??

Off to do millies cookies tonight but no choc chips in , had a rummage through the cupboards and got a tube of smarties and a crunchie so they will be going in there instead. Some will be for the picnic tomorrow and hopefully half might make it to the freezer for next weeks school pack ups...

Hoping for a ns weekend , chatsworth money from a separate saving pot ( actually an old jam jar), so thats not part of the grocery budget.
    bye

Right I'm a newbie to all this so it will come as a revelation to me how much money I actually spend on groceries during the month. So as a trial I want to start with £400 for this month.Which I think is a ridiculously high amount but it is for 2 adults and 4 kids so we shall see this is either going to go really well and I'll come in loads under budget or I'll bust good style and learn just how much money I really waste:eek:

  • Ooh that sounds nice, I picked up some Mr T value pears today to make into puree for baby, along with some apples, so if they are too sharp I will do that, thank you!
Got some nice looking Rump steak for tea as it was only £5 and should do us for 2 meals and I am need of some iron but refuse to take tablets ;)

    Evening all

Well hubby got back from work early, so we nipped to check the blackberry patch we had found -got a few, but nothing major..then on the way home -I thought I had spotted some across 2 lanes of traffic, through some woods :rotfl: We did a turn around and I was right :j hubby was amazed as i wear glasses -close up work and im fine but things in the distance im terrible :o but THOSE I spotted :p .... we got out to have a nosey and there is about 1/2 mile length of them :T -on a fairly nice path...less prickles for me :D ...so we got about 2lbs..and will be going back to check on the loads more that are yet to ripen :shhh:
So tommorow Im going to stew them with some more freebie apples and freeze them ..
We nipped into the NAAFI but the only thing I picked up was 2 x 3 litre bottles of milk whoopsed to €1 each :T so they are stashed in the freezer... and now my aim is to NOT spend another cent before next Saturday at least :D

We have just had a pasta bake nommy.. and i have 3 more bags of roasted peppers, tomatoes, courgette, patty pan , aubergines n chillies (all out of the tubs in the garden:D ) and they are going in the freezer too .. Im glad its not salad weather as it gives me more tomatoes to roast :rotfl:

OOhh I did pick up a x stitch mag..not GC money though :A :rotfl: but I had to get this so I can make a start on making things to take back for the hospice to sell ;) ..Its mainly xmas stuff -but some lovely ideas... I have loads of threads but had no small charts (i usually do biggies) so i might have to get a couple more to get other themes  ..

anyway -back off to the x stitch I go..have a great evening all
Will pop and update my signature and the list ...its getting HUGE  :rotfl:

I think nosh 4 students is a really good student/starter recipe book. Its great cos the recipes are all easy to follow, you dont need scales/fancy equipment, there are photos of every recipe and mealplans in the back with shopping lists. Most of the recipes have veggie alternatives too. :) HTH

This link might be useful too http://www.studentcook.co.uk/ ;)
