I have already spent £13.61 out of our September budget, but August Challenge hasn't finished yet!!!

Our neighbour (sp?) let me have her blackberries today. Then I went around a friends place, where I got a bag full of cooking apples and half a bag of eating apples. And some more blackberries. :j
I have now done 2 blackberry and apple crumbles (one for us and one for the neighbours, my friend don't like them:confused: )

On the weekend I will attempt an apple cake (big enough to put some in the freezer and some for next door again.)
Oh, next door are having a bramley apple tree, so guess what we are getting in about three weeks!!!

What else can I do with the apples though? :undecided

    Evening All

Can you please out me in for £300 this monthagain. I am quite looking forward to this month as everything should be back to normal.

Have already done my shop for Monday for the weeks supplies and to stock up on packed lunch things. Its £87 before offers and thats with a lovely £6 off code from this board. Just need to pop to makro to get loads of capri sun's (they are much cheaper there).

Feeling quite organised and pleased with myself - long may it last!
  • Can anyone tell me how to make a crumble!!!!!!!! i'm off bramble picking tommorow and i haven't got a clue how to make a crumble.

Know its a silly question but i am blonde if that makes a difference!

  • I was wondering, and I'm sure it's been raised before, whether we could put a summary of people's families/what's included next to their budget targets? I'm aware that would be a lot of work so please feel free to shoot me down in flames for even suggesting it :rotfl:I just think it could be a real help to see how others in a similar position to you are managing (perhaps people could buddy up if they fancied?) and would be an inspiration to know that spends really can be reduced over time. Just a thought.

Yep like the idea of this, i'll start off shall i ...... will change my signature now x

  • Mmm, Goulash, can anyone let me have a tried and tested recipe please :D

Got my eye appointment booked to have them laser corrected  on 11th sept, its hubbys bday on the 14th so I guess we will be going out either the week before or after now :p I have got the ingrediants for a curry night (the winner on the Jamie Oliver thread I think) so I might do that and save on the takeaway he is bound to want ;)

    Hi Blondie,

put the brumbles in a dish, add some sugar (they can be sour, so my lot like a bit of sugar with it) and then add the crumble mixture (recipe below) and some brown sugar sprinkled over the top. I have done it this way with all fruit crumbles. Also, I do add a small amount of water or apple juice when I use apples.

    Crumble mixture recipe

    4 oz Flour
    2 oz Margarine
    2 tsp Sugar

Just mix it all up and voila!

    Hope this helps.

hi all- wanted to ask , do any of you know a really good, nutritious, cheap etc cook book for students? My friends daughter is off to uni shortly and hasnt got a clue. I have given her a few recipes off here but wondered if there was a good book for total novices ??

Off to do millies cookies tonight but no choc chips in , had a rummage through the cupboards and got a tube of smarties and a crunchie so they will be going in there instead. Some will be for the picnic tomorrow and hopefully half might make it to the freezer for next weeks school pack ups...

Hoping for a ns weekend , chatsworth money from a separate saving pot ( actually an old jam jar), so thats not part of the grocery budget.
    bye

The Student Cookbook is great, don't know if I'm allowed to link to amazon or similar so here are the details -
    • ISBN-10: 0600609650
    • ISBN-13: 978-0600609650
They do a vegetarian one as well. Cheap nutritous and healthy meals, easily adaptable for families too.
