in case you do not know you are still within the period of cancellation as per any cancellation rules but if you paid by credit/debit card inform the company you have your card or bank from and they should help you reclaim the money already paid. My parents had a similar experience and we wrote to the scamming people quoting Eurpean timeshare Laws (you can get hold of these on the internet) and also informed the credit company who did most of the work getting the money back into the account. Hope you go on well. Ps We too were scanked into buying into the then Sunterra points scheme we were in spain on another holiday, dirty flat bad facilities they offered to change this so we spent the remainder of the fortnight in there lovely complex. Boy have we paid since and what makes it worse is that you get hassled to try to sell you more at every holiday taken at the facilites also our last two holidays had stag/hen parties there who had paid direct to go so it is not only owners that use the complex.0

Hi all - again
Have been in contact with the "UK European Consumer Centre ECC@tsi.org.uk (as advised by my MEP) regarding missold points and DRI.
I outlined the way in which the points were sold to us and their reply was -
"any misrepresentation made in the course of pre-contractual negotiations makes the agreement unenforceable"
In other words - the so-called contract is not worth the paper its written on!
Another nail in DRI points coffin.0 -
Whilst I wouldn't recommend buying into diamond, as it seems an expensive liability, it's only fair to point out that my family has just come back from a week long stay in Portugal with Diamond, which was booked through a display stall in our local shopping centre. We had a decent apartment, it slept 6, we paid just £99 for the accommodation for the week and had to book our own flights. The deal was we had to attend a resort tour and timeshare meeting. It lasted 90 minutes, was very low pressure and we weren't treated any differently after saying no to their offers.
It wasn't a free holiday, but it was a very cheap one. The resort was great, the apartment was decent (though diamond members had better apartments). We changed our dates 3 times with no problems - trying to get cheaper flights.
I didn't feel scammed, there were no extra charges except our electricity at the resort (we knew this in advance) which came to 23 euros.
Their offers might not work for everyone, but it worked for us - it's not a scam, we felt they were upfront about it being a timeshare taster.0 -
AMCJL,
what resort did you stay in?
how much were your flights? & transfers? did it come to more than booking a package holiday?
& did diamondresorts allow allow gay people to go? what about unemployed people with £99 spare?
how many people were allowed out after just 90mins of "low pressure" sales?
how is it new posters often seem to have a completely different sales experience to all the ones ripped off by DRI?
look forward to your answers
BTW, what car do you drive?Originally Posted by shortcrust

In the past Diamond's meetings were purposely targeted at those in society who could afford their con, such as those with a higher disposable income and the retired. They researched their "punters" so that they were of a type that could afford to pay their increasing MF's and for when their timeshare points system reached the end of its product cycle. The wave of complaints that started with a unnecessary special payment to DRI has eventually highlighted their unscrupulous selling and contractual affairs. Diamond is thus feeling the pinch and has had to lower their punter inclusion system to include everyone in society that will listen to them or go on one of their con-weeks.
This company (CONpany), and I find it very difficult to associate it with honest businessmen, are total CONmen. They will attempt to fleece anyone that falls under their lying wing and will threaten you if you resist their methods of doing business. Everyone that bought their points were not informed of the long-term eg 54 years mortgage involved with their CONtract. It's not till situations like this present recession that highlights their twisted selling techniques and back-stabbing CONtracts.
I think this CONpany do not care what your personal or financial situation is, they will still attempt to fleece your money from you. To sustain this situation they will phone you with threats then tell you by post of pending legal action - all because you found out they are CON-artists.
So, what do you (we) do?
1) Don't pay them - they are CONmen. Eventually they will go back to their toilets!
2) Inform as much of the public as possible - just to stop them falling under Diamonds CONS,
3) Support sites such as this so we can come together and reduce this CONpany from pulling in more punters.
and
4) Help support those who are potential victims and help those who are being pressured to pay by threats

just returned from week in 2 bed apartment sleeps 6 in tenerife with parent who bought about 10 years ago from sunterra ? she has fixed week which currently costs £120 a year maintenance fees. she is not on a points system. she was asked to attend a 90 min meeting. she did and was offered 3k points for £2995. no mention whatsoever of being charged per point for maintenance fees which would open up holidays to anywhere in world. :rotfl: proof was shown on their password protected website . luckily 4 hours later she rturned with my wife without signing anything but they were virtually won over.
talking to a few people who were on points systems around pool one of whom showed us the 2010 brochure basically confirming that the holidays they were shown they could have , they had no chance of getting :rotfl:thankfully we were also showing the maintenance fees would suddenly be charged per point escalating the cost enormously. lesson learnt we will not be attending anymore of these meetings as they are very convincing . she is 68 and the ideal person for unscrupulous sellers to target. no wonder they want to introduce her to the points system.

We got a timeshare over 10 years ago at Thurnham Hall, we live locally in lancaster so we use our week every other year but mostly use the gym and pool on a regular basis.
Was fantastic when we bought it with RCI they were great, however the place has changed hands loads of times, from RCI to invent international to sunterra to sunterra uk and now its with diamond resorts. over the years the standards have slipped and the companies keep going bust,
MY ADVICE if your going to get a timeshare or already have one DO NOT get points or swap having your week and appartment for points.
they have tried numerous times we get constant calls trying to get us to swap for points but at the end of the day RCI sold out to invent international (didnt go bust but wouldnt matter anyway our week and appartment still stands) but as sunterra and sunterra uk went bust had we had points we would of lost it and had NOTHING but since our timeshare is for a physical item ... the appartment as much as the new companys want rid of us they cant!
some companys are great for timeshares but im afraid diamond resorts is NOT one of them!0 -
I would advise you and anyone else to have nothing to do with this organisation.
I joined under a smaller company who dealt with the sceme well but it has been taken over several times now. You cannot resign but you can only sell your points to another member. The trouble is they do not want the points anyway. You have no control as members and the maintenence charges are now horrendous.
You must of course make your own decision but I would never touch them if I had my chance again.
Oh, you can get out but you have to die. Lack of money etc does not count.0 -

Send them a recorded delivery letter giving back your timeshare or points well before the yearly maintenance is due.
They will call you or send you nasty letters, they will threaten to send in the bailiffs, but no court in england will deal with these timeshare scumbag thieves.......Have some backbone, tough it out..... you will be well shot of them.Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0
