Why you saying probably one of the scammers? I admit i work for them as a sales representative not as a scammer i make sure all persons who are eligible to join our club fully understand how much it costs for the Sampler® (Hence the reason it takes 90 minutes). Timeshare is not cheap nor is it expensive IF you work it for yourself and are also able to space out your time as Summer holidays are on demand far too much. I have children and a partner to support too and i struggle to make payments but i also love knowing that when i book my holiday with DRI i can book in confidence.

Hardly independant, are you? If you are a company representative for DRI, you need to get permisssion to post on this board.

What happens if you want to sell your timeshare. As you are aware, (or should be) the market is awash with thousands of timeshares which people are desperately trying to sell, but with no success. Do you explain that to your potential customers?

I see you haven't commented on the remarks made by the OFT and CAB that this is a huge scam. Your comments would be most welcome.

  • The thing about DRI and timeshares in general are they try to sell value, the idea of ownership, choices, and freedom, but you end up with the exact opposite.

Unlike some folks here who just rag on timeshares or sampler packs or whatever or some folks who say they work for DRI I'm actually someone who attended two sales seminars, bought a 7 night sampler, and got to go to Maui a few weeks back.

My wife and I had no intention of buying into a timeshare, but the lodging itself and the time we spent there was memorable and a good experience.

It's just if we went back to Maui we would want to stay somewhere else and when we go on vacation we enjoy searching out available deals and picking different resorts and lodgings vs., being locked into going to DRI or some other timeshare year after year and constantly receiving bills long after the vacation is over.

With a timeshare you have to pray you get the time slots you want at the location you want. If this happens you still end up with a room and that's it.

Not only that, but forget about regular hotel or resort amenities. No room service. They clean your room and change the sheets ONCE per 7 nights, unless you want to pay them $90 additional per day. Nothing is complimentary, except perhaps a glass of juice.

I just fail to see any sort of advantage to locking yourself and your family in for life into a particular company.

Another thing that could happen is a better company like Suntera or whatever can go belly up and you end up with DRI as the new owners and are stuck with a far worse situation than when you first signed up.

It's far easier to just book your airfare, lodging, rental car, etc., online and look for deals for activities at your destination.

Even DRI's sampler package is worse now with Hawaii no longer being a destination choice.

Still, I think we did ok and we didn't sign up. We also got what was promised - 2 dinner cruise tickets in Tahoe as well as being able to go to Maui during winter, so we're happy.

We're even happier knowing our next vacation destination, lodging, travel, etc., is probably going to come through Priceline.com and is no way related to DRI.

Another thing. The 5 star accommodations is BS. I'd say a nice 3 star is far more fair of a rating.
  • Jaseball I think you just hit the icing on the cake.

  • Hi - I am yet another "victim" of the money black hole that is Diamond Resorts and wonder if any of you can offer any help.

We joined GVC many years ago with a starter pack and have used the points on various occasions over the years, saving the points up some years to get something better - (as you can't get what you want at the time you want it with too few points. The 59 day rule gives very limited options).

However, Sunterra and then subsequently Diamond Resorts International have taken over and imposed their new rules and of course their new " we can charge you whatever we like" management fees.

I would like the option of accepting or choosing to walk away. I would forego my points, and my total membership if necessary but we have received a letter telling us this is not possible. I cannot think of anything else I own, or membership I have where if necessary, there is no choice to give back what I have - and that includes my house!!

I don't recall signing the original contract in blood. To my simple brain, it seems that what DRI are doing must be illegal. "Buy this, and unless you can find another mug to buy it off you - you will pay for the rest of your life - whether you use it or not"

This must be wrong, and if it is true, the law needs to be changed.

    Any advice please?

Just inform them in writing that you no longer want your timeshare and will no longer be paying any further fees, send by registered/recorded/signed for-delivery and keep all copies.........you will get further threatening correspondence from them but they know nothing would ever hold up in a court of law..........you are now clear of these thieving scumbags, and a happy new year............................

Just don't do it not even for a cheap getaway,

    IT's a Scam.
DONT BUY IT, I DONT NEED IT

  • Thanks Antenna.

Have you or anyone else you know actually done this with DRI? It is exactly what we want to do - we refused to pay the 2009 fees, and we've just had the letter requesting 2010 fees, as well as 2009 fees plus interest.

I feel it's totally immoral that they are allowed to get away with this, but at the same time I want to make a stand - just don't want it to come back and haunt me legally in years to come!
