Diamond Resorts-is it a scam?

I have just come back from a weeks holiday in Tenerife with some friends who are members of 'Diamond Resorts'. Whilst there I decided to go along for their 90 minute presentation to see what it was all about. I am 64, married, with no children, and there were lots of couples there like us. I was promised a £50 meal voucher for going. Now we had no intention of buying in whilst we were there. If it was OK I thought we might go back another time. It is obvious it is going to be a hard sell, anyone who doesn't realise this must be naive, but if you don't trust yourself to be firm then don't go. At the end of the presentation I just said very firmly and straight that I wouldn't be buying in but that he had presented it in a very clear and friendly manner, but no thank you, I stuck out my hand and shook his, and said that I would be leaving now. He offered to reduce the price if I would reconsider, so that is definately something to try. Don't take the first price they give you. He looked so shocked that he fetched my voucher and went outside to get me a taxi back to my resort. I didn't ever feel that I couldn't refuse, but I have been in business for 42 years and can say no quite effectively. I thought that in some ways it was a good way for some people to get a holiday every year, it just wasn't for me. You just have to be firm when saying 'NO'. So don't be afraid to take the offers up they do seem to be genuine.0

31. Creating the false impression that the consumer has already won, will win, or will on doing a particular act win, a prize or other equivalent benefit, when in fact either—
- (a) there is no prize or other equivalent benefit, or
- (b) taking any action in relation to claiming the prize or other equivalent benefit is subject to the consumer paying money or incurring a cost.
Does anyone else think they might be breaching any of the other rules in the act?

The following rule also has guidelines / the overall ethos guidelines mean that they can deem it illegal for the companies staff or associates should not post in forums / bloggs praising the company etc without identifying their connection with the company. How many of the new members that just post once praising Diamond do you think may breach this?
11. Using editorial content in the media to promote a product where a trader has paid for the promotion without making that clear in the content or by images or sounds clearly identifiable by the consumer (advertorial).

i havent watched ur link no. I like my timeshare and am obviously blinded by them because i work for them but from what we offer it all seems pretty genuine i have been working in our office in lancaster for the last 3 years and own my own points with Diamond Resorts International and make the most of them. I dont feel scammed. you join a timeshare knowing full well whats involved and what commitments are involved. timeshare is worldwide if it was soo bad then not only would it be banned in 1 country it would be banned in all countries but even Barack Obamma will probably have timeshare by now0

I doubt Barack Obamma would have a time share, I think George W Bush would be more your target market. If he has not bought a timeshare, you could always try offering him a job, he would me ideal as he would be oblivious to any upset or problems the company cause.0

That's the trouble, a lot of people do not know whats involved or what commitments are involved. They only know what the lying sales people tell them. I think you should get out more.0 -

Why you saying probably one of the scammers? I admit i work for them as a sales representative not as a scammer i make sure all persons who are eligible to join our club fully understand how much it costs for the Sampler® (Hence the reason it takes 90 minutes). Timeshare is not cheap nor is it expensive IF you work it for yourself and are also able to space out your time as Summer holidays are on demand far too much. I have children and a partner to support too and i struggle to make payments but i also love knowing that when i book my holiday with DRI i can book in confidence.0
