When porting over VHS cassettes from the Cyberhome, am I right in thinking that it is only worthwhile selecting Extended Play (VHS quality) in order to get 6 hours worth on 1 disc?
There is no actual benefit from selecting say SP or LP instead is there?0 -
After 3 weeks of this recorder working fine, it failed on me, it would not play any disc, nor would it record
Took it back to ASDA but they said they don't have anymore in stock and will not be re stocking them
Gutted as it was such a good machine!
Are there any other similar priced DVD recorders still about?0 -

I had an Alba dvd recorder for Christmas. Lovely looking and worked well - except it went pop one night .
No problem .
We took it back to sainsburys and swapped it for another one. Took it home ,set it up and thought we were set.
Except it too went pop.
Didnt even have time to test it out.
We did some research before too and found nothing about this remarkable tendency.
Has anyone else had problems -or was it just our bad luck?"I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something."0 -

Hard to say. I just dubbed a load of stuff from a good VCR (digital noise reduction and all that) and definately got a better picture with sticking to HQ.
I think it's because the degredation in quality on a video tape is of a different type to that on a DVD recorder (VCR=grain, tape noise DVD=blocking), so they just use those terms as a kind of comparison of how bad it will look.
I guess if you have LP VHS it will be grainy, and if you transfer that to DVD in EP, then it will be grainy AND blocky. I'd stick to as short as you can on the DVD.0 -
