The OP is not being forced to pay anything. No one is holding a gun to his head and saying that he must change the name on the ticket. He is doing so because he made a mistake, and he is choosing to make the name change.

People seem to forget that the cost of the name change is only £20. The additional amount is applied because (as far as Easyjet are concerned) the ticket is being sold on to another person, and therefore they are expected to pay the fare that would be payable if they bought a new ticket today.

    Now you're getting pedantic.

Whilst no gun was put to his head, essentially and save for canceling his flight - he was forced to pay.

    Lets not start getting silly.

I have been reading this thread with fascination. I am just amazed at how many 'perfect' people there appear to be on this forum. To come on here and publicly ridicule someone like this is totally un-called for. And to say that if you had made the same mistake (which I'm sure none of you would ever do) you would just accept the extra £100 charge, well I am sure that no-one believes that.

Give the OP a break. The OP is not blaming EJ for their mistake, and is accepting the £20 each way charge for the error. And I'm sure that they will never make the same mistake again.

We all fully understand the reasons behind EJ charging the additional £100, and if the OP was trying to change the name from John Smith to Paul Jones then it would be justified. HOWEVER, he wasn't. He made a genuine mistake (which EVERYONE does at sometime in there lives, even all you perfect people) and EJ shouldn't be making a profit from other people's errors. EJ T&Cs state there is a £20 each way charge for correcting mistakes and the OP just made a mistake, so he is entitled to be angry about the additional charge. Do EJ pay us £100 if they make a mistake? No, and they are far from perfect when it comes to getting things right.

The OP was angry for making the mistake and angry at EJ for not using their common sense.

I sincerely hope that none of the perfect people are around if someone ever gets injured in an accident. They'd be so busy spouting about how they would never had made such a mistake and telling the person how they should have done things they'd forget to HELP them!

I thought that the whole point of this forum was to HELP people. How hard would it be to give the OP some ideas about how to get his £100 back????

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but pease, have some compasion and think before you open your mouth. The old saying 'sticks and stones' never was true and words do sometimes hurt.

When you get down off of your high horse, why don't you start the ball rolling by giving him some ideas?
  • The perfect people on this thread who are attacking the OP and not Sleazyjets deliberately obfuscatious T&C`s, are exactly the craven type of customers that such companies love.

Instead of accepting whatever outrageous charges these Rip off merchants levy, how about standing up to them and make them behave in a fair and proper manner.

Just because it is in their T&C`s does not not mean it is fair.

    Because patently it is not.

If what you say above is accurate, I presume that Easyjet do not consider this change to be a mistake.
    I wonder why that is?

If it is obviously a simple mistake (the OP said he used middle name instead of first name so the surname must be the same) I'd go back to Easyjet and query this additional charge.

Well by a combination of British Airways and Emirates I will be in Indonesia by saturday.

Not a whiff of Sleazyjet or the other scummy one needed at any stage.

I would suggest contacting Easyjet Customer Service in the first instance (even if this has been done already), stating calmly what has happened and why this is a simple error and not an attempt to change passengers. After no doubt having no luck there, I would ask the representative to make a note of the fact that you have called, along with a brief note of the circumstances. I would then write to easyjet, giving them a detailed description of what happened, admitting that you had made the mistake and asking them to reconsider the £100 charge. I would also supply copy of passports etc to show that your middle name is in fact what you typed in.To be honest, I wouldn't hold your breath, but if you want to reclaim the £100, this would be the way to try to go about it.If anyone else has other suggestions, instead of just pointing out that they would never have made this mistake, please share. After all, thats what this forum is supposed to be all about :)
