I wouldn't make a mistake with MY name but maybe this other person is called by his second name, which is why the mistake happened.ok uno what, when i was once booking guestlist for a club i knew my mates surname but rang her anyway to DOUBLE CHECK. for such a thing as minor as a guestlist id do the same for a flight ticket. its common sense really.
if you dont know, or arent sure, CHECK FIRST!

Just like you, dmg24 and countless other people who probably book flights on a regular basis, OF COURSE I'd check first. OF COURSE, it's common sense.
The OP made a mistake (with someone else's name), I was pointing out that he didn't get his own name wrong.
A simple mistake has turned out to be a costly one, and I'm sure that the OP will not make the same mistake again.
I think Saint_Chris has explained the probable reason for this charge very well.0 -
.I personally do think the OP is being ripped off in these particular circumstances.
Surely to be " ripped off " the company needs to be doing something that isn't legitimate, they are not.
The OP may not think that it is fair, but he/she is not being " Ripped Off ", as the terms are clear and unambigous.0 -

Is being forced to pay an amount which grossly exceeds the actual cost to the airline for changing a name not a rip off to you? So why is everyone complaining about banks charging £30+ for going over agreed overdraft limits etc? By your standards, they have no right to complain as the banks terms and charges are clear. But not even this site sees it that way. What the OP is being charges is NOT PROPORTIONATE to the service required and in my view is a rip off.0 -
You've missed my point. I fully understand charging the difference in price when you are replacing one passenger with another, but if it is a simple error which requires altering through their booking system (which does not involve a change of person or date etc) I don't see any justification whatsoever for charging this. People make mistakes...it happens...but I'm getting sick of seeing people coming on here saying 'you're an idiot, you deserve everything you get' when it comes to charges like this for an alteration of name.I personally do think the OP is being ripped off in these particular circumstances.
OK, well if all the airlines drastically reduced the charges for customer errors then they'd make less profit. As a result of less profit, the fares would go right up. Would you be happy to pay for other people's errors? I wouldn't.
Also remember that the charge isn't just for rectifying the error. The staff/IT systems/office/rent/utilities for that to happen also have to be there.0 -

That is simply untrue.
A rip off is being forced (in this case) to pay massively over the odds for something. If it were as your first stated and illegitimate it wouldn't be a rip off but a scam or a con. It need not be illegal or even unethical for it to be a rip off.0 -

In your opinion..:rolleyes:0 -

No I don't want to pay for people's errors, but at the same time I shouldn't be benefiting from other customers being charged penal rates for making a simple error. This is just a hunch but I don't think it costs easyjet (or any other company) £20 a time to open up a file and alter a name. And the requirement to pay the increase in flight costs in this particular circumstance is shameful.0 -

The OP is not being forced to pay anything. No one is holding a gun to his head and saying that he must change the name on the ticket. He is doing so because he made a mistake, and he is choosing to make the name change.
People seem to forget that the cost of the name change is only £20. The additional amount is applied because (as far as Easyjet are concerned) the ticket is being sold on to another person, and therefore they are expected to pay the fare that would be payable if they bought a new ticket today.Gone ... or have I?0 -
I`m quite willing to bet that if you booked your flight, taking hand luggage only, printed your boarding passes,no one would even notice the wrong chrstian name as you went through security.
Would you be willing to pay the difference in fare for them if they did get stopped? It would be considerably more than £100 higher on the day.Gone ... or have I?0
