I have just been RIPPED off by Easyjet

Look, I think the whole situation has gotten out of hand. This could have been less of a debate had the OP not used the term "rip off" in the title. This is a common mistake used by first time posters, and they soon realise not to use it again.
My opinion of the reasoning for Easy and Ryan to charge the difference in flight prices as well as for the name change used by some is too deep I am afraid. I don't think it entered their heads that travel agents might buy up loads of cheap flights and sell them on. It is pure and simply a way of tacking on an extra fee, no more or less than that. And for all the pax. that manage those £5 flights, there are probably hundreds that make the one small mistake that ends up costing them more than had they bought a flight from a more reputable airline. That is why the T&C's are set out like they are, to catch the less wary outThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
spot on stoneman, there has to be a hefty charge to stop travel agents buying up all the very cheap fares and selling them on.
its no rip off at all, its a blessing , just like the screen scraper row at ryanair, stop travel agents, online companies ripping off the public
oh and by the way, if i could make a suggestion NO SPAM ,the op did not ask for help , deltakc, bairn7,gosia, so there is no need for heartfelt sympathies, or how cruel posters are blah blah blah
infact no spam has not bothered to reply0 -
So you are saying that if Emirates or BA do not fly on your chosen route, that we should all stay at home?
Looks like we'd better PM Martin to ask him to shut down the Travel board!
Once again VEEEEEEEEEERY slowly,I am suggesting nothing of the sort .
You do exactly as you wish, it is no concern of mine.
I am simply stating that i will not use Easyjet,Ryanair et al as i obviously expect a better service from the companies i deal with and am quite prepared to pay for it.Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind. - Albert Einstein.

Right i'll put it in as best way that i think they charge this.
I've paid £23 for my flgiht to benidorm, it is now over £100 i paid for this on the day that they came out.
Now i could be working as a travel agent advertising over the internet, and i could have purchased 8 of those seats for £23 on the day that they came out.
Bought in different names.
I could now be advertising them on sale for £95, which is £5 cheaper than easy jet, and people love a bargain, so would book with my travel agents before easyjet.
All i would have to do is get there name, ring easyjet and change the name on the booking, it would cost me £20 to do this, so the flight seat would cost me £43
But i've just sold the flight for £95 hey presto a profit of £52 to me.
So as a travel agent i make £52 the op saves what he thinks is £5 on his easyjet flight, by booking with me.
If a week before i've still got the flights left and i've not sold them, then i could do a massive sale and sell the seats say for £50 each, still a lot cheaper than easyjet will be now.
So i would only make a profit of £7 but it's still a profit.
That for me is the best way that i can describe, why easyjet have that you have to pay for a name change and the difference in price.
which is exactly what i said 2 pages ago, before all of this back and forward stuff0 -
and why not islandannie its your choice and your'e happy with it
she will not use ryanair or easyjet, but never say never because one day you might have the choice to fly with them, or perhaps no choice and you have to fly with them0 -
This is a lively subject, isn't it ?
My views are further up the board for all to see and haven't changed.
What has surprised me in this thread is the suggestion that the people who are asking for adjustments/name changes etc etc are subsidising the airlines to the point that they are able to sell seats for £5.
If this is true, what a sad state of affairs it is when Joe Public is incapable of filling out a basic form accurately -- even more so, when he/she surely realises that any correction that needs to be made will cost them ££££££'s
If anything, that is the most important thing that is going to come out of this thread

One of the results of our mega-bucks edukayshun system, I'm afraid. Poor literacy and numeracy skills everywhere but at least we're getting 'better exam results than ever!'. Pull the other one!0 -

There is always Plan B for those who are incapable of filling in a form correctly, unable to check their work fully, or a victim of out edukayshun system, and that is to use a Travel Agent.
That way, if they make a Pigs Ear of it, they are the ones who will carry the can. But of course, they only work on the information given -- and if you give them the wrong information.............................................

You just don't get it do you - I asked a perfectly reasonable question, which you could not answer. The adult thing to do would have been to say 'I had not thought about that scenario, in that situation it does seem like a good idea to use the low cost airlines'.
Keep throwing your dummy out the pram annie, you're giving me a good laugh on a grey day! :T :T :TGone ... or have I?0
