Wow I found this thread yesterday and I am now so excited about my Elf coming to visit!!! My friend in work has offered to knit an elf for me (bless her) so I just want to check that it is the Initial Imp that everyone uses?? Also will I have to buy loads of wool? Or is there somewhere you can buy cheap little balls?
I'm going to have so much fun with this!!0 -
We do something similar with our lo's. Throughout december my kids get visits through the night from elves to make sure they are sleeping soundly and been good...the kids know that they will only come if they go straight to sleep and be good. In the mornign the 'elves' always leave a chocolate coin (or a couple if they have been really good) and they also leave notes saying how proud they are that they are been good and how santa will be really pleased with them etc. My kids love it and draw pics for the elves and leave little presents they have made etc. The the night before xmas eve the elves leave special presents (xmas eve hampers) which always include a giant choc coin so they have them to open xmas eve morning. We also sprinkle glitter in their bedrooms so they know when they have called.0

I am using the Initial Imp Alan Dart pattern. Have got the ears nose and hat left to knit and then he will be sewn together. Hoping to add a photo in next few days!!!
You won't need loads of wool, I knitted mine in green, red, white. I will have used just over a 50g ball of green, and to a lesser extent red, white, black & flesh. DK wool is really cheap. I pay around £1.20 per 100g ball.0 -
I must be a cheapskate, when my two were little we told them the PIRs for the alarm were elf cameras checking for good behaviour before Christmas. We actually do have an elf called Steve, he is cardboard and lives in the loft with the Christmas decorations, he stands guard over the tree when the pressies are under it. Last Christmas he went missing, I took everything out of the loft and he was NOT there. A few weeks ago I went looking for something up there and he had returned, no idea where he was but he was missed by everyone who comes to us for Christmas day.0

I had an elf - Mistletoe Merryweather Jingles
to stay for the first time last year. My Mum ended up making me one from a pattern from Canadian Living website. He went down great with my daughter who was almost three. There are some pics of his antics on my blog back in August if anyone wants any ideas for their elf.
I'm already planning for him to arrive on the 1st December again this year. My hubby just rolls his eyes and goes with it. :rudolf:

Hello
For those doing the Elf tradtion might be interested in "The happy Elf" dvd. I am going to give it to me children from our Elf for the day my Elf arrives on the 1st Dec but you could also use as a film in the Xmas stockings or xmas eve hampers. It is only £2.98 at amazon or £2.99 at play.com delivered.
It looks really good and the packaging has a effect which looks like it is snowing on the front cover. Very sweet.

I am hoping his grumpy face will make the children know he means business when I say he is here to make them behave! :rotfl: probably won't work!Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
