  • Hi, I spent last night reading this thread and think it's a fab idea! my kids will love it - ages 6, 5 and 4 so got myself the initial imp pattern too and have started on our elf today :)

I'm not sure whether to put the beanbag in though, might it make it a bit too heavy to be getting up to some mischief like hanging in the tree? but it would make it better for sitting in places .. hmm decisions decisions lol

    Hello All,

I found this thread last week and think its great. I am def going to give this a go this year as my daughter is a grown up 3yr old and i think will find it very funny!

I did spend ages looking at someones blog, laughing out loud to myself - so sorry i cant remember who it was but if you remember your elf hanging your kids underwear from the tree im talking about you, lol.

Needless to say OH thinks i have gone nuts but im sure he will be thinking of naughty things for our elf to do by the end of the dec!

I have looked on my mate good ol ebay but havnt found any elves and i cannot knit to save my life!

It maybe a little early for the shops as we havnt got past halloween yet but any ideas where i can get a snazy elf teddy to create some mischief?

you're welcome :D I am going to put the idea to my kids preschool, i think it would be fun to have the elf travel home with a different kid each night and compile a scrap book of the reports and a photo with the kiddie. See what they think anyways :)

  • Love this tradition - read the thread a while back but have since forgotten about it. Would love to knit an elf but not keen on the Alan Dart one. Has anyone else found a different pattern for an elf?

    Thanks Louise

I'm not allowed to post links yet so if you go on ebay and search for 'SLY SOFT TOY NODDY' it will show what I've bought to use as my Christmas elf.

I did fancy knitting an Alan dart gnome but when I thought of the cost of the wool & time to make, I thought I'd take the easy option. Sooo looking forward to using him! Hope this helps someone else looking for a prospective elf!!!

I am using the Initial Imp Alan Dart pattern. Have got the ears nose and hat left to knit and then he will be sewn together. Hoping to add a photo in next few days!!!

You won't need loads of wool, I knitted mine in green, red, white. I will have used just over a 50g ball of green, and to a lesser extent red, white, black & flesh. DK wool is really cheap. I pay around £1.20 per 100g ball.

I'm making this one too! Mine has got green and cream stripe legs with red jacket and shoes. Just got the hat to knit and then sew him all together. Can't wait to see your pics! :j
