I'm a regular shopper at Aldi, and am rarely disappointed. I'm a very fussy person when it comes to quality, and without being big-headed, I know quality when I see/taste it. I especially like their smoked salmon, cold meats and cheeses.

Also, every season, Aldi will have a world-food promotion. The nationalities covered are Italian, Greek, German, Spanish, French, Asian. This is what I look forward to more than anything as they bring in delicacies from that nation. In October for example, the German theme starts ready for Oktoberfest, and they sell a multitude of beers, sausages, preserves. And they are very good.

Lidl have been selling milk at 99p for 4pints for weeks now. I don't know if this is a "special" or just local - it's not in the leaflets.
If you have any spare 1pint bottles you can freeze smaller quantities without any problems - only tried this with semi-skimmed.
Bananas at 38p per kilo are another bargain. I buy green ones so they last.
if i had known then what i know now

This week these caught my eye - 29p for brocolli; brussel sprouts 39p; baking potatoes 50p and butternut squash 59p.

I am newly converted to this store and being a new pensioner, hop on the free bus with my own bags, buy up the specials and hop back home again so I am not overburdened with heavy shopping. A word of caution, put on your specs to make sure your fresh stuff is as fresh as you'd like it as can't see 'best by' dates on their produce. :T

I was a bit disappointed by their butternut squashes. They seemed a little on the small side to me.

I saw some very big ones in Fareham this morning. Not as tasty as my own home grown ones though!

Haven't tried Aldi lasagne yet, but can highly recommend Lidls. Also, Lidls chocolate is definitely comparable to Cadburys. I would say I like both of them equally.

I agree the Lidl Lasagne is the best i have tasted if you want a ready made one
A bargin is only a bargin if its needed not wanted :money:

I am not impressed with the 99p milk, I opened some, went away for 48 hours and when I came home it was cheese. the date on it was Thursday as well. If I buy milk from Sainsburys its still ok the day after the use by date. Was parched as well from a long motorway drive. Luckily I had bought some Lidl UHT in for such emergencies :rotfl:
