This Danish/American family, the world's largest ocean dry goods shipping magnates, have had to raise further capital because of the down turn in world trade.

  • Voucher in the Mirror this weekend.
  • Aldi seem to have stopped stocking the excellent bottled Bateman's Organic Hop Bine Bitter.

Does anyone know if this is permanent or will it be coming back? It seems to have been replaced with some non-branded beers.

Is there anywhere else that stocks it?

I bought my son the USB microphone from ALDI. I found it to be awful. Focussing was Micky Mouse and very difficult at 200x. The whole thing is plastic. The software provided is very out of date, and I found it didn't work well. The picture was, in my opinion, very poor. Just not good enough all round. I took it back.

The 8GB media players they have at the moment look really cheap and plasticy. I'm sure they were selling much better quality looking ones a year ago. With bigger touch screens, though more expensive.

It seems that the quality of ALDI specials has gone down recently.

Judging a small supermarket on the electronics they sell is like judging a car manufacturer on the carpet mats their dealerships sell. I continually merit Aldi (and Lidl) for the quality of the items they specialise in, i.e. the food and household items. Very few of which I can find fault in.

For my 2 penneth, I highly recommend their smoked salmon, cold meats, cheeses and cereal. I also highly regard the German festival foods they have this time of year. (The Bockwurst and vegetable soups are fantastic as a work lunch).

I personally avoid their milk however, which I find smells a little sour upon opening, and doesn't last very long.

Curious, I can't say I've noticed any problems with their milk. A 4 pinter usually lasts us 3 days after opening.

Whatever I need that Aldi don't sell is often found in the neighbouring Tesco. Their own milk lasts about a week before going off, and the Cravendale equivalent lasts even longer. It's all subjective really and all a matter of opinion :)

Maybe i had a bad pack but i bought a pack of bacon at 99p from aldi and as i was removing a rasher at a time it cam apart in pieces as opposed to 1 whole rasher which is what happens with bacon from the multiples plus it didnt grill very well so think ill stick to sainsburys or butchers bacon in the future
