I dont know if anyone's said this already, but i love the American Style Ice-Cream from Aldi. It comes in a tub exactly like Ben and Jerries and i cant tell the difference between the two. I had Cookie Dough =] and its half the price of Ben and Jerries.0

we have been shopping in aldi for about 2 months now and we have cut our shopping bill down by £40 ish a week. (Although I do still buy toiletries elsewhere) We have tried most things in store but especially:
Spare ribs packs
Oyster sauce stir fry packs
Apple Juice
Chocolate mice
Disco bars
Free Range Chicken
Pork and apple saus
Forciatta bread (spelling)
Salad
Parsnips
fruit
butter
the only down side they never have skimmed milk and I do not like their microwave rice.
Will certainly keep shopping there0 -
Has anyone tried the tinned chilli from Lidl, called El Tequito?
Thanks0 -
I'm fairly new to both Aldi and Lidl as I've recently come back to live in the UK after working abroad and moved to an area with both of these stores :hello: Prior to the move abroad, where I lived there was no Lidl and one small, shabby Aldi. I occasionally visited the Aldi but found the stuff very hit and miss, albeit SUPER cheap :money:
In the years I've been away it would seem that Aldi has had a re-vamp and become more 'British' if that's possible to say, as I remember them as selling a lot of German or other european foods with stickers in English telling you what they were and the ingredients etc. Now they are obviously packaged with Brits in mind and seem a lot better quality. I mean, to be fair, the european stuff they used to sell was always very good but a lot of the cheap 'n' cheerful stuff like baked beans and instant coffee were pretty grim to say the least  Now I can honestly say they taste as good if not sometimes better than leading supermarket brands.
However, does anyone think that Aldi's not that cheap really? Perhaps because they've gone 'up market'? They're still cheaper than most supermarkets, but I have begun to notice that the savings on a weekly shop are shrinking (perhaps because places like Tesco and Asda do more BOGOFS or half price deals, which I tend to take advantage of)
I've started to go to Lidl more and more often instead as I can still save a lot on my weekly shop there, they do a lot of deals whereas Aldi don't seem to do any (unless it's just the one by me) and Lidl sell more interesting 'european' things. There's a lot of French and German deli foods and sauces in my local Lidl which are delicious and high quality, plus if you're happy to buy in bulk, especially frozen meats etc, Lidl has a lot more to offer in that way..or is this just me?:o0 -
Does anyone know what's happened to the Aldi Maple syrup flavoured popcorn? My OH is gutted that they don't seem to sell it at our store anymore.
Will be visiting in the next few days with a view to shopping there regularly again, I stopped when the council started charging for parking. Tesco is ridiculously priced now.
Out of interest, what is fresh meat from Aldi like, quality and price wise?0 -
Aldi meat is okay but not that cheap, think its about the same as tesco. their steak mince is £2.50ish for a small pack and a whole chicken is £3 i think.
i pref lidl over aldi.
apple and orange juice
their cloudy lemonade is delish
paprika crisps
all the chocolate nom nom especially the white choc crisp bar and the chocolate raisins
their bbq range is really good and well priced
i like their bacon too!
my boyf loves the muscles and smoked troutyuck

The bread flour at Lidl's gets rave reviews from the likes of the Women's Institute and home bakers (like my mum!). The plain and self-raising flour is unbeatable in quality and price - and what's more the wheat is grown in the UK, milled in the UK and packed in the UK. I think I bought my last pack of flour for 50p when it was priced at about £1.30 at Tescos.
So that's more than enough reasons to buy it.
I came across this http://www.wrightsflour.co.uk/news_article.aspx?newsid=57 announcement about a forthcoming promotion that's coming on September 1st. Sounds interesting :money:0 -
LIDL: Don't buy the sweetener, it's horrid. I can't recall the brand name as I've chucked it out but the bad taste remains.0
