Ah that's the name. I find it has a bitter aftertaste. I made a cup of tea with it and it was horrible. I tend to use Canderel now or even Splenda.

Must be down to the coffee being strong enough to disguise the aftertaste.

Lidl Lemon Cheesecake bites are too moreish.

  • We're recent converts to Aldi because amongst other reasons they're really good at labelling for Gluten free products.

    Favourites:
the red berries special K style cereal
    the chorizo sausages
    the bratwurst sausages
the bramwells lighter than light mayonnaise
the ham and mustard crinkle crisps
the pack of tuna steaks from the freezer
    the cheap fruit and veg.
    the free range eggs

Not tried Lidl as there are none near us that I can get to ( I don't drive.)

  • How funny! When I was young I would have died of shame if my mum had taken me into Lidl for one of her "skint shops." Nowadays it's becoming my main shopping store, with Sainsbury's/Tesco relegated to "They don't do it in Lidl" shops!

Anyway, here are my Lidl recommendations:

    Yoghurt Drink
    Cat food
(My fussy cat loves their dry food, cat pate and chew sticks!!)
Strawberry crisp cereal (Absolutely delicious. Lasts about half a day in our house!)
    Pure Orange Juice
    Pure Apple Juice
    Florays toilet paper
    Florays kitchen roll
    Eisstern Ice Cream
(so far we've tried Tiramisu, Strawberry and choc hazlenut - All were gorgeous!)
    Pain Au Chocolat
    tinned tomatoes
    Cotton buds
(do the job at a fraction of the normal price)
Toothbrushes (Really good value, even if you just want temp ones for holiday)
    Olive oil
    W5 Dishwasher tablets
(I can't get over what great value these are! I live in a hard water area and they are just as good as Finish/Fairy but cost peanuts!)
    W5 plug in Air freshener
    Crunchy peanut butter
    Sunflower spread light
(at 75p per pack, it's way cheaper than any other of the shops near me and tastes as good as any well known brand)
    Tomato ketchup

I've learned to stay away from the following though:

Men's roll on deodorant (Is it Cien/G. Bellini? Black case, blue or grey cap. The smell is fine, but it stings like hell!)
Disposable razors (They will cut you to ribbons. If you want a cheap disposable, you're better off with Sainsbury's basics)
Lemonade (very little flavour. More like fizzy water)

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Aldi - Brioche Rolls - 10 for 99p :D

They are lovely, kids enjoy them in the morning with bacon in for breakfast on a Sunday. Really nice.

    Aldi - Snackrite Stackers - 165g for 89p :D

They have good flavour, and are not that different to Pringles.

Lidl: Premium Bockwurst - cooked in the same way as Frankfurters: Put in a pan of cold water, heat until just below boiling, remove from heat and stand for 15 minutes. Traditionally eaten with sauerkraut but potato salad is good or even bockwurst and chips - no ketchup :)

Lidl: Pataya ACE drink - 20% fruit juice and 5% carrot juice with a taste of peach although there is no peach in it. Packed with vitamins A, C and E and 54P for 1.5 litres at the time of writing.

Try them with Curry Ketchup or German mustard and Himmel und Erde - mashed spud with mashed cooking apples.

Aldi's Chicken Kiev’s are lovely ....trust me I’m a Chicken Kiev expert!

They used to be! Now they come in a pack of four instead of two, marked "even better value!" - always a bad sign. They are terrible now.

They've been pretty awful for years, ever since they started making them from 'reformed' chicken rather than the real McCoy.

The post that fredsie quoted by uncle_buck IS 6 years old.

As you say, they used to be whole breasts but were then replaced with a reformed version.

LIDL's are STILL WHOLE BREASTS, but a little on the small side.

However if you've got access to COSTCO, they do excellent ones - they come in boxes of 11 for around £8 ish
