However if you've got access to COSTCO, they do excellent ones - they come in boxes of 11 for around £8 ish
Thanks, but sadly we don't have a Lidl or a Costco nearby.

As you say, they used to be whole breasts but were then replaced with a reformed version.

Try them with Curry Ketchup or German mustard and Himmel und Erde - mashed spud with mashed cooking apples.

German mustard has disappeared from everywhere where I live. I can sometimes get it from Polish shops but most of the time I have to use Dijon which is a poor substitute.

I'm disappointed to to see that Aldi haven't had their German festival this year. It normally appears around the beginning of October.
  • The disparity in the exchange rate between the UK & EU (and Germany in particular) probably means that commodity German products would have to be sold as "loss leaders".
Don't expect a Norwegian food festival any time soon.

Cheep "Ouzo" might be a better bet?

Bought a whole lot of stuff from Lidl the other day.

Really loved the Smoked Gammon steaks that they had on offer.
Had them with the 22p tinned potatoes (also lovely).
The (infamous) potato salad is GORGEOUS.
Also bought a pack of 2 big sausages with red skin, vaccumed packed. They are basically white pork meat also known in German as 'Fleischkaese'. So happy I found them as I hadn't had them for almost 10 years! :T
Also bought the cheapest ketchup (the brand starts with a 'K' me thinks) which tasted lovely, but I'm not too fussy about ketchup to be honest.
Still to try the chicken (maybe tonight?) but all in all a success.
A whole weeks worth of food for £20!

On a side note: I was born and brough up in Switzerland, where Lidl and Aldi are also considered 'Discounter' stores but with excellent quality. Personally I adore Swiss and German food as it really does taste different from the food here. It took me almost 8 years to finally drink milk here and the 'English' chicken also is a lot different.

That's not to say English food is not good also, just 'different' in taste (at least to me) Still love a fry up and could never live without yorkshire puds again :rotfl:

    Hi

We are newbies to ALD! But we like:

    - Doritos
    - biscuits
    - sour cream
    - DDs like Dunkers and cheese strings things
    - cat food
    - loo rolls
    - bakery products eg. Sugar, flour
    - ground coffee is OK...not the greatest but at £1.79...
    - alamat washing powder

Bread was bland. Crumpets on other hand seemed fine.

    Cheers guys

After having tried the chicken breast pieces I can say it is as good as any other :) Even though it was 1 day off the use by date!

There is also a spreadable cheese with garlic which taste EXACTLY like Boursin and for 99p!
Sometimes you'll find the Boursin on offer at other supermarkets for £1 but I believe you get more for your money with the Lidl version plus it spreads easier on bread than the Boursin, which is of a harder consisteny.

The white bread in the green packaging (sorry forgot the name) for 47p is the BEST white bread I've tried, both myself and my mum agree on this! We love it toasted as it stays nice and crispy :)

The Linessa 'Vinaigrette' salad dressing is absolutely gorgeous, perfect with their £1 bagged salad which is HUGE.

As you might be able to tell, I am in love with Lidl :D
