As was being discussed in another thread, it's also worth comparing the quality of the bread. Sometimes you will find with the supermarkets that they've made it cheaper by putting a lot more air into it (more yeast I guess?) and making the loaf itself a lot smaller. I'm not saying that Lidl don't do this, not really tried it, but it's not uncommon for there to be a noticeable difference in quality at the same price.
  • I find you can't do a full shop in aldi, but always pop in when i am near.
    I love their ham,coleslaws,parmesan,cereal bars,cakes and jam.
They also do a proper cheap maple syrup but i find fruit & veg very hit and miss.

The best things from lidl are their croissants, and the pain au chocolates are amazing.... and so much cheaper than tesco, and are even ok if you microwave them to warm them up... they dont go all soggy and horrible.
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions

I've had pineapples from both Aldi and Lidl - they've always been great. In fact sometimes they are Del Monte ones.

Excellent programme - I liked the MD of Aldi where he was touting his sole offering of a 75p box of cornflakes vs Tescos 7 varieties - he was pushing the point that you pay more for choice. Also the slippery Tesco Commercial Director shrugging his shoulders at the suggestion that their soppy new "own" brands were introduced because they are running scared of the discounters. Well done Aldi & Lidl - Tesco don't like it up 'em

personnally i think tesco took note of aldi/lidls rise and thats why they brought out the discounted range of foods to try and compete, the tesco MD wasnt going to admit that,

The fact that their shelf edge labels were quoting Aldi's price made it look a bit obvious :D
