I just found this about them securing more England games, it really seems like they intend to make it the only choice to watch England.

Pretty disgusting that our national sport can not be seen on free to air TV. If I am right, I understand they won the auction beating ITV and BBC for the rights, so not a great deal we can do really other than bemoan the FA's money grabbing.

Quite frankly I couldn't care less whether I can watch the England matches, third rate team with over paid prima donnas

Oh I see, thank you. Seems very strange that the FA have no say on the national teams away games being shown on TV in the England though.
They do, however, have control of England away friendlies, which will be broadcast live on ITV1. It's suggested on the Digital Spy forums, that the FA achieve this, by stipulating control of the UK broadcast rights, when agreeing a friendly.
  • So i'm guessing that i can only watch tonights game with Setanta??
I'm not a subscriber and after reading this thread i'm not sure i want to be now :(

  • Hell I'm keeping away! I'm not a fan of their reporting team and things!

When I used to watch it down the pub, the signal was awful (even on Sky), I wouldn't mind watching the over-paid prima donnas if they would put in a good performance, but it's just not worth the risk now to waste 3 hours on it!

    Noooooo way!

God I must have been lucky.I just phoned up and it was cancelled straight away.
  • We signed up to Setanta 2 weeks ago for the sole reason that we wanted to watch the England qualifiers. Switched on TV at 6.30pm last night, the picture kept freezing up and around 10 mins after kick-off we got the "No Satellite Signal is being received" error message. Rang Setanta, went through various menus and was eventually greeted by the recorded message "Due to exceptional demand, all our customer service advisers are busy taking other calls. Please call back later." Finally managed to get through around 10 mins before final whistle and the dimwit at Setanta said he'd reset the signal and we should expect it to be up and running in 30-60 mins.

    Great... Muppets.

Thing is, when we initially signed up it was on the "first 3 months half price" special offer that they had been flogging to death all over the press. I had an email that morning with the offer, when I rang up they told me the promotion had ended (!). I explained I had an email sent that morning (and could forward it to them if required). They asked what the offer code to quote was, I said there wasn't one (and believe me, I have good eyesight). They said in that case they couldn't give me the half price offer, at which point I said fair enough, I won't subscribe.

Cue hasty backtracking and murmurs of how they thought they "might be able to sort something out"...

    Muppets...
  • I had massive problems trying to cancel sentana, they kept reconnecting me without my consent and then it was costing me loads of money on 0870 to cancel them.
You don't have to use 0870 numbers. There are alternatives on saynoto0870

  • So was I right or not to write cancelling my subscription to the address in County Down? Or should I have used a different address?

    Thanks,

  • I have also been notified of the Sunderland address in an Email but am wondering whether to do the Co. Down one as well for good measure.
I was originally told to write to one in FIFE (how many more do they have??!!) but - despite sending it "recorded delivery" - and verifying it was signed for they refuse to acknowledge receiving it on the 2nd of this month.
The worst thing is that my credit card company refuse to stop the DD without the consent of Setanta, who of course will not authorise this ... big business sticking together it seems!
    Cheers.

  • So would you suggest I send the same letter to Sunderland address as well? I sent the letter to Co. Down on 20th August...
