Friends of ours use a sonic device that they swear by.
It's no good if you have any pets (that you would like to keep), and it will set you back a hefty £94 (for one, and you might need more than one) but my friends say it's effective against all sorts of creepies, and also mice. Must admit, I've never noticed any spiders or spider web at their house.0 -
While were talking bout horrible critters! Anyone know how to stop slugs coming into my kitchen?!
They come under the door and draught excluder and were talking big green 4 inch fat slugs all over my kitchen floor of a night!
Makes me sick... havent even got a garden either - just a yard with no plants yet... maybe thats why.. maybe they are hungry! lol0 -

I used to 'care' for the spiders in my house. strangely enough at our old house i've never seen so much as 1, but in our new house they kinda outnumbered the 6 of us!
I was happy to share my house with them until one day when a supersize ginormous one decided to sit on my shoulder. (and he was busy crawling up my neck towards my face!) from that day on, I use bug spray that i very cheeply get from tescos. I even used to hunt the millions down in my garden every sat morning. Since it started becomming colder in October, they seem to have dissappeared. Either that or i managed to kill them all! Of which i am very proud of!
I say:if they want to live, they must go make their homes in someone's garden and house who cares for spiders. definitely not me. And i dont feel a bit ashamed to say so!do you believe in Fairies?

ON YOUR SHOULDER?????? Sweet LORD!!!!!
I honestly dont mind the regular sized ones. I can live with them; they are not going to eat me or anything (well thats what I tell the kids when they start kicking off about them). Its when they scuttle along the skirting board and you have to look twice cos it is big enough to be a mouse ..... Thats not right.Threadhead0 -

LOL ->exactly my point, ours aren't your small or even regular sized ones, from my point of view they are a bit overgrown to be exact. when they r small its easy not to notice them or even to just ignore them. but when they r so big that you start wondering if your foot is going to be big enough to squash them...do you believe in Fairies?

I have heard of putting peppermint oil onto cotton wool in gaps where the spiders come in, I do it and certainly there are fewer, august here is 'spider season' due to the harvesting and fields next to us, believe me they are big enough to put saddles on... they really scare me. I cannot imagine the poor person who had one about to go onto her face, then the husband who was on the loo and one got on him, that would be my worst nightmare....one of my builders thought it hilarious to put a huge one near me which he'd found in the roof, and boy it was a size, I went into shock and my neck all puffed up and went red. luckily I have my cats to eat any stray spiders, presently, though I must admit I like to know exactly where the spider is at all times....Oh in my greenhouse this year I have never seen these sort before, they are black with a yellow two eyes and a mouth painted on their underbelly, quite like them ginger bramble bush spiders, you know speckly with a body shape like a strawberry? has any one else seen them sort I daren't look on the spider link to see, I'll think that one is on me for the rest of the evening....0

Ack, I really hate spiders, have had terrible arachnophobia for a long time which is unfortunately no laughing matter.
My sis who lives in Australia (the land of really big aggressive spiders! ) has told me of this wonderful bug spray that kills spiders and critters dead on contact! :T
As I'm going there in December, I shall be purchasing some as soon as I get off the plane in Sydney!
I may look at importing it to this country too! It looks like there'd be sufficient demand! :rotfl:Debt 2007 £17k

Hi,
We have the same problem in our house except they love to crawl over our heads at night - arrrrrrrrrrhhhh, this happens on average about 10-15 times a year !! we even moved the bed around to see if that would help but no ... anyway the last one was last week and they are - as mentioned in previous mails - unnaturally large, so I would be really interested in any suggestions too. CheersCurrently on a life sort-out !! ...reducing bills, decluttering and getting into fitness - busy bee0 -
The site below suggests a spray made from Cloves and Chestnut will deter spiders. It does not give much detail about how to make it and so on, nor how to deploy it. I guess simmering the ingredients for while, letting it cool and putting the mixture into an old plastic spray bottle might be fine but I’m only guessing. There are other articles on other pest and animal deterrents.
I tend to capture mine in an old pickled onion jar and put them back out in the flower borders.
