I regularly have those, and I hoover them away. Only NOW is it occuring to me that I may have missed a brown fluffy lump..... doh!
BTW, I didnt get round to gathering up all the spiders this weekend. This morning I lifted DDs towel and out crawled.... you guessed it. The spider in the bathroom has gone missing in the last couple of days. Wonder if it was the same one.
I always shake my towel in the morning before I use it;ever since I was halfway through getting dried one day and felt a tickling on my arm (only a small one that time).Threadhead0 -
I am loving this thread. I don't mind them too much - I normally catch them in a pin glass and lob the glass into the garden. I collect the glass about 3 days later.
The others in work really really really hate them tho. I love winding them up by saying that if they kill a spider, it's mates will wait until your asleep then crawl into your ear to have it's babies. :rotfl:0 -

My mum sleeps with cotton wool in her ears EVERY NIGHT because she read about a man who had a moth laying eggs in his ear. Honestly!!!! :rotfl:Threadhead0 -
You have no idea how much i am itching now
:rotfl: this thread is so funny though, i am getting hairspray flashbacks
i am petrified of the things, i am so scared that i cannot kill them, even the little ones, i just cant be near them at all. I had a few run ins with some HUMUNGOUS ones all in the space of a week.
We had some work done to the house in August, we had to move out for a week. Three days after moving back in i was in the bathroom washing my face, my 2 year old son was standing looking at the wall saying happily "spider spider!" The plasterboard has been completely stripped from the bathroom as the house is falling to bits so everything is literally open. I was gaping round about me going "oh yes" just to humour him. I then looked up from the sink, this thing was the size of my hand.
I must have jumped back about 2 metres then i started to scream, followed by floods of tears. I managed to scare the living daylights out of my son. DH managed to scoop it into a big jar and put lots of Ant Killer in it before securing the lid then chucking it into the wheelie bin ..... just to make sure it died!
About an hour later DH went to the loo and returned giving me a funny look. "Oh no its not back again??"
"No but his big brother is" he replied. He swiftly got rid of it.
The next morning i woke up and there was another one of the large blighters on the floor at the side of my bed, luckily enough it was dead, it didnt stop the screaming.
About 2 days later DH was on night shift. I had nipped to the shop and when i came back sure enough the first thing i saw was another one on the kitchen blind! I paced the floor before foning DH who was about 60 mile away but got no answer so i foned my mum who wasnt in. Panicking i went into the garden and called on my next door neighbour.
With her wrist strapped up from an operation, my kind sweet old neighbour scaled my washing machine and managed to scoop it up into a cup (which ended up in the wheelie bin after) then let it out in the foot of the garden completely ignoring my pleas to kill it.
Another 2 days passed and sure enough i was emptying out the washing basket and as i turned out a pair of trousers out popped another one of them on my lap, luckily it was dead, but the neighbour heard my screams
I havent seen another one since, thank god, i was beginning to think that i had some kind of infestation. We have been in this house since April and i have never seen so many spiders!
Thanks for taking the time to read my natterings
I hope this helps someone sleep well :rotfl:A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0 -

Wow, there are a lot of ppl here likely to have a fly infestation next year!!!
You know, there *are* people with a true spider phobia, my mums friends daughter is one of them, or at least she used to be until she went though a course of hypnotherapy. She would genuinely go into a state of shock, her face would drain totally of colour and she would hyperventilate. Most people that claim to have a fear of spiders have a strong conditioned dislike of them that is easily conquered. This probably sounds really harsh, and I don't mean it to and for that I apologise. But true arachnophobia is really quite rare and the majority of fear of spiders is, effectively, a choice. Possibly a choice made when very young and has been reinforced and reinforced until such time as its a very difficult habit to break.
As for being useful - they are VERY useful. They are a natural fly killer, and, as I am sure most of you know, flies will vomit on food lying around to liquidise it, and then they suck it up to eat. Appetising or what!0 -
Trow - I think I'd rather have the flies thank you very much! I do have a true phobia and also had hypnotherapy (paid for by my family who though I was going to one day have a heart attack bought on by shock and hyperventilating). It did help a bit, but certainly hasn't cured it.0

I would definately rather put up with the flies.
When I was in Vietnam last year they have huge white jumping spiders there. You can't swot them as they jump as soon as you move. When I got home one jumped out of my suitcase and down the back of the unit and I havn't seen it since  I'm hoping it couldnt cope with the cold of last winter and died.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
I'm not scared of spiders but I'm not keen when they surprise me with their presence from time to time.
I really don't like flies though and if one manages to get into my bedroom in the summer then I can't go to sleep unless it has been killed or flies out. Flies are majorly minging. They vomit on your food and fly towards !!!!!!. If I had the choice would much rather have the spiders, not the really big ones though!0 -
Cant believe that nobody has mentioned Conkers.
It is honestly not a myth. The repellants are all made of chestnut oil. Dont know if it is too late to go and find any but I wentand picked some and placed a few by each door and in each corner - and at least had no biggys fpr a while ( touching wood).
Alternatively in the Betterware brochure there is some spray which apparently is good at £4.99. - you can get it online.
You shouldnt squash them as if they are carrying eggs they are likely to release all over the place.
Good luck!!!0
