Excellent, thanks folks! Just sent husband and daughter out shopping for ingredients for Tea Loaf (the bara brith one) and fudge. Goint to do some experimenting this weekend with my mum and my little un to see if we can do them well enough for pressies (we'll have to test them, natch...)

As my brother has also returned to college this year, my sisters are skint and I am living on the edge, we decided to do christmas MSE, so we are making a sweet each and sending them out to everyone so that we'll all have a selection come christmas.

I am doing fudge, I have a quick receipe but wanted to make sure I had the best as it has to be alright for best part of a month, relatively easy to pack and taste nice.

    Suggestions please.

  • Hi guys!
    Thanks for the replies.

I just took some of the "easy" chocolate fudge to a friends (to palm off on her now hyperactive children!) and after a morning out of the fridge it was noticeably much softer - so I don't think it would survive being in a hamper.

After a few more tastings of the chocolate fudge (the children didn't get it all.....!!) I thought I would prefer it as a coating for a cake.

The Nestle one is my favourite. Just make sure you cook it for long enough or it won't set. If it doesn't set I've just reheated for a bit longer and it's been gorgeous and nobody died ;)

I also recommend using an electric whisk for the beating part.

Did you use a 7 inch tin as in the recipe? I've looked around and cant find any that size.

No, I lined a baking tin that I use for tray bakes with baking paper. Then folded the edge in the middle of the tin and supported it with mugs. That's about as clear as mud but can't think of any other way to describe it

I've also lined a tupperware box with baking paper and used that instead. The only thing was the fudge was much thicker so needed to be cut in half before cutting into pieces.

Thanks for posting this - I was just wondering the same thing myself as I am planning to make some fudge (Nestle boil type recipe) for Chrimbo presents and don't know how far in advance I can make it...
The Nestle one keeps for about a month if you store it in an airtight container. I can't vouch for any other recipes as I haven't tried them.
