......Ian Rankin came in to a tiny bookshop I was in to speak to the owner and sign a book - just came in off the street. I peered round a corner to make sure it was 'him' when the owner just called him Ian. Looks exactly like his cover photo on his books unlike some who put on photos from years before. He had a grumpy looking ??13/14 year old with him so if it was his son, it's good to know that he has to deal with hormonal teenagers as well......

wmf - If you are a fan, there is a programme on the BBC-iplayer called "Ian Rankin's Edinburgh", but it will fall off overnight as it was broadcast last Monday...there is also a profile of him on ITV3 one night in the week.....

Portugese fish stew - it's DF's recipe really, but it's basically large onion, garlic, passata, glass of white wine, assorted firm fish (we had monkfish & mussel meat last night but have had cod or coley before), frozen peas all bunged in together and some crusty bread to mop up the gravy - yummy! Will find the proper recipe & post it later.

Not much going on today - think Morwenna's mount washmore ironing pile has snuck down to my house  but DF has pootled off for a few days work so may do some tonight whilst watching some chick-tv programmes I've recorded :D

  • Morning all - well it's morning for me, I was still up at 0500 so been sleeping til a couple of hours ago. Plus once I was in bed my legs were hurting a lot so sleep was intermittant. Still, can't let that get me down now can I? I am quite capable of being grumpy even when I have had a full nights sleep.. :rotfl:

Was woken by my friend in Ireland ringing to tell me how bad the floods are over there. Sounds dreadful.

Big hugs to Pennypincher, Pixie and DS1. Plus Kaat and annie and Mark, Redruby, Stefie, and Morwena.

Smokie - thinking of you and sending you lots of good thoughts. It's always a shock when things come out of nowhere like that.

Poppy - Well done on putting yourself first (sometimes we all have to) and the duvet day sounds great!

Welcome to Bigbird and Jo132000 to a very friendly thread.

Big bird - I am still waiting for my tomatoes to ripen too! I just can't wait!! Other than that I have some nice green tomato chutney recipes I can share lol

sistercas - not sure if I have said this before and sorry if I have, but have you tried Avons Skin so Soft dry oil spray? Spray a little on before you go out and the midges will ignore you, I promise!

Ok.. well now my meds have kicked in, my legs have stopped hurting so we are goig to have roast pork for dinner. Had a Tescos delivery last Sunday and this joint is eat by today so we are doing what we are told *giggles*. It's just about the smallest joint I have ever seen but hoping we might have just about enough left for one sandwich for the OH tomorrow. Having it with carrots and green beans.

I hope everyone has a good Sunday

Hugs to anyone who needs one and congratulations to anyone celebrating a birthday.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

    Afternoon all,

Smoky...hugs, you are doing really well, but weepy times will happen...sort out tax credit as I can't believe you can owe them money.

Beth....stop thinking that there should be no rest for the wicked and have a break

Candy...hugs for you and your family

Joannasmum....stove is lovely, spent an hour on that site as want to put a stove in my kitchen when its revamped, needs to be small, so checked each one out!

Some kind of stirfry/curry/pasta bake for dinner, whenever I feel up to it!

I'm very disgruntled and discombobulated today having stayed up till stupid o'clock to watch the marathon

smokey - hugs hugs hugs - and enjoy the garden - hope you get the TC sorted

My dd(11) is coming home tomorrow - I can't tell you how much I've missed her. She has done a fantastic job with her blog keeping everyone up to date with her adventures - although in a true OS stylee, most of the entries are about food :D - it's here http://princessperry.blogspot.com/ if anyone wants to take a look.

The hosue looks like a bomb dropped so I'm going to give it a good clean, do some more painting and then find a nice cake recipe to welcome dd back with. Bless she's going to be completely jet lagged and then is off to France for 10 days the following evening

    have a good day
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008

Going to have a coffee, calm down and make a quick phone call. THEN.......camly return here to post my usual(friendly) drivvel. Speak shortly. Ann xxxxxx

    I am a coffee bean
  • Floss2, thank you for the recipe :) That sounds yummy, and pretty low fat, so ideal for me at the moment.
And sistercas, glad it worked - people tend to look at me strangely when I suggest it.... Mummysaver, I wouldn't recomend it if they get infected, but if you catch the bite quite quickly after you've been "got", it is brilliant :)
STef, expect you are VERY excited about DD coming home- love the blog, very entertaining.
Anniestar, I saw a couple of the posts yesterday & just thought "what a small-minded petty nasty person whose obviously got no life". I will go & have a look at the rest... Glad you've told them what-for though.

Nice to see a few faces back again, tiredmum & natzini I can remember off-hand, but to any others who have been MIA for a while. ((((hugs)))) to you if you've had tough times recently, good to see you back here.

Candygirl, your poor aunt - get onto social services, the GP & anyone else you can, and just keep politely hassling... Not that you should have to. I'd be making mutterings to them about negligence, etc....

    Afternoon peeps
Just a quickie again today i`m afraid as i`m once again at w*rk - i do seem to be living here at the moment:mad:

I`ve been up since first light and done lots of gardening and little jobs around the house, i needed to get organised as we have another 2 days without water coming up as work is being done on the mains pipes in our area.

When i get home tonight i shall be filling all the bottles and pans and having a late shower before bed.

DH is away at the moment so only myself and the animals to look after, he will be away next weekend as well and then hopefully i can have my hubby back for a while:rolleyes:

Mioliere - i have an empty demi john at the moment so the tea wine recipe would be lovely thanks

((((HUGS)))) to everyone who needs one today and i hope that everyone has a lovely evening.
Sorry that i don`t have time to mention everyone by name - i have caught up with the thread now but posting takes an age as people keep walking into my place of w*rk and i have to keep minimising the window quickly :D
