Hi, this is the Daily Thread for sun 17th aug. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all,
SMOKEY .....just caught the end of yesterdays thread and wanted to send massive hugs (((((((((((((smokey))))))))))))).
im still loving the olympics and its sooooooo worth getting up for,its been fantastic.
plans for today are to watch the olympics :-),vacuum whole house, dust and to get living and dining room floors cleaned.not sure whats for tea yet! waiting for inspiration to strike! dd1 requested curry so im going to do a curry for them but i'll eat later with dh when he gets home.

Morning people

Have been watching Olympics myself, New Zealand finally got some medals yesterday! Probably only because the weather is cold though, because I have been trying to sort out my gardens so it is not so much of a mission when I want to chuck some veges in
Hope you all have a good day!!!"Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without!!"Nov NSD: ?/30 Nov Make 10 Day ?/300Get Rid Of Debt: ?/2000 !! :mad:0 -
Morning,
Just caught up on y/days thread, what a sad time it's been for many.
((((((((( hugs ))))))))) PENPIN, PIXIE and DS1, KAAT, ANNIE and MR A, REDRUBY and DD, STEFIEJB, JACHIE O, MORWENA and DSis. SMOKIE, thinking of you lots x
Welcome BIGBIRD, VSGUY06, JO132000, to a very friendly group.
Didn't get to post y/day, I deceided to polish every bit of wood in the house using Orange Glo, it's like stardrops but it's a polish made from oranges. It took me hours. Made a spicy carrot and tomato soup portioned 6 lots and froze. It was so cheap to make. The curry I made on Friday weighed 12lbs that's portioned and frozen.
I'm going to try out my new iron/steamer I paid £45.50, it was reduced from £199, I washed a cordaroy jacket so hopefully I can steam out the creases, will try it on curtains to freshen them.
Have got some cooked beef out of freezer so will do DH a full roast. I fancy a salad. Have some squishy fruit so willl make smoothies.
Couldn't make the curtains y/day as my hands were numb for most of the day so I slept with splints on last night, hope they work better today.
This has taken me 42mns to type, sighing with frustration.0 -
Morning everyone
(((((huge hugs))))) to Smokybabe
Well I have loads to do today  My own fault - did nothing yesterday (apart from washing/drying and knitting whilst watching the Olympics
)
The IL's are coming round at 1pm to watch the footie and have a roast for dinner, and my house is a hovel - need all hands on deck when DH and DD get out of bed.
Need to iron, might do that now so it can be put away, rather than cluttering up the downstairs.
Dinner will be roast lamb, roast potatoes, yorkie puds, broccoli, carrots, peas, gravy and mint sauce; followed by hm warm chocolate brownies with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.
Hope everyone has a great SundaySquares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0 -
Good morning everyone.
Massive (((hugs))) to Smoky - you're doing so well taking care of the children and holding things together; it must be awful when things hit you out of the blue. You have enough on your plate; I hope you can sort out the worry over the £1300. I think it's important to get the garden finished if funds allowed because it's something that you and the LOs can enjoy and Eric would want that. The childcare costs are horrendous, aren't they? I so wish we could all come along and help you in a practical way. Between us we could climb mountains and take a lot of the burden away.
Beth - no wonder your arms hurt! You MUST slow down and get some rest. (((Hugs))) to you. How are your DBs?
PenPin - (((hugs))) to you.
(((Hugs))) to everyone else who needs them including Jayward, AnnieS, Kaat, Candygirl's Dad and Essex-Girl's Dad.
I haven't caught up with all of yesterday's thread yet.
Floss - I posted the Hot Buttered Plums recipe last night - I hope you found it?
Sunnyday - I'll look for the recipe for tea wine that you asked for before the wedding and post it later!
Well, I did a lot of gardening yesterday and made a few visits to the dump so that took care of most of the day; we had some unexpected visitors, too, so the day just ran away from us.
We heard from DS1 and DS2 - they are each having a great time on their holidays so I'm looking forward to seeing them and all their photos!
I put my DH on Facebook yesterday; that was a mistake because he's hopeless on the computer and keeps asking me things but, as I'm pretty hopeless on Facebook we ended up going round in circles! He's worried now because I've threatened to put a not-too-flattering photo of him on it and he won't know how to get it off! Seriously, I wouldn't do that - would I?!
Dinner today is roast chicken, potatoes and carrots in the Remoska and cabbage in the steamer followed by plums and blackberries to use up the last of the three tubs of clotted cream that BIL brought up from Devon. We've used some of it up with the scones that I made in the Remoska which turned out really well. DH has requested them as a regular thing now!
Anyway, I've mioliered so I'd better go and have my shower. The skies look a bit gloomy at the moment but it doesn't look like rain. N9EAV - I hope it stays dry for you today.
See you all later.

Morning all!
No emergency call outs from Dsis last night so hopefully she is okay. I will call her once it gets to a more civillised hour. Her daughter came over from Manchester to stop with her last night and cook for her so that's all good.
I have a lot of tidying to do today and Mr T's is set to deliver. I have ordered an organic veg box from them, which I hadn't realised they do, so that will be interesting. Strangely, the online price is £10, but the price guide email says £8...?
DD1 and her BF are coming today. It was her birthday yesterday and we are going out for pizza to celebrate. She also wants me to show her some cake recipes as she wants to take them into work. I suspect she will be watching and I will be making and then she will say she made them herself
I have rambled on a bit so hugs for those that want or need them and have a lovely Sunday everyone.0 -
Morning all
Dry again here today, I'm sure the weather forecast was for rain
Went down to the allotment yesterday and dug up some of our potatoes, also some beetroot which I cooked and pickled. I managed to get what are probably the last of the raspberries, and when I was out with the dog I picked some blackberries, so crumble for afters today
Want to get down to Aldi when they open as they have a wooden side table for £19.99, and the rest of the day will be spent clearing the conservatory ready to move our settee out there.
Hope everyone has a great Sunday xYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever

I so wish we could all come along and help you in a practical way. Between us we could climb mountains and take a lot of the burden away.
I'm sure that sums up exactly how a lot of us feel. I love the spirit & generosity & caring of this OS thread, even though most of us haven't met.
((((((smokey)))), Kathy said it all in her post - it is the unexpected things that "get you", and yes it is part & parcel, but that doesn't make it any easier. You really are doing so well.
((((penpin))))) as well, glad the Will stuff is sorted out, hope you feel a bit better soon.
Betheebee, that was a bargain & a half wasn't it!!! Wow, bet you are very pleased with that
Lots of people having roast dinners today - not quite sure what I'm doing yet. Chicken stir-fry probably as we didnt have it yesterday.
Feeling quite awake at the moment despite ringing (useless) Council to complain at midnight about fact next door appear to have gone away & their alsatian was out in the garden barking non-stop for 3 hours (up to that point), meaning I couldn't get to sleep  Someone (their teenage son?) was around at 1ish & let it in but no signs of life there this morning. Council said no-one would/could do anything till Monday & then they "might" phone me back. Not if I ring them first..... Will ring RSPCA Monday too - they also have about 10 cats, & you don't go away & just ask someone to pop in once a day to see to all that lot & leave them outside in the meantime.... It's bad enough as I have neighbours the other side with 2 alsatians which also bark intermittently but on & off all day every day, especially if I dare to wander around in my garden! Reaching a point where it is beginning to seriously wind me up.
Got a few people coming to collect most of the freecycle stuff, so that will clear a lot of cabin things. Going to finish sorting the bookshelves job that I was doing yesterday too. Dry at the moment (though it rained last night), so will try & get some washing out. Now I've finally got going on the jobs I feel more motivated to keep going.

Morning all
Bad night as I wasn't very well (better this a.m.) and a friend phoned in floods of tears with bf troubles at 11.30 and stayed on the phone for almost 90 mins!!!!!! The upshot is we're going out today with her kids to give her something to do, and so that she doesn't just mope in front of them as this happens quite a lot. So lunch out and cinema it is.....only prob is I really can't afford it, so will have to have a storecupboard week and use grocery money! Luckily I have planty of tins in and still ploughing through stuff from my sister's lotty!
Otherwise looks like a nice day so far. Hoped to potter a bit more in the graden and go and split some herbs from my mum's, but that will have to happen later in the week now.
Cup of tea first though....
See you all later
