  • Are we to believe that our banking transactions are done on systems in Spain?

    Thanks for your time.

So that's comforting then. We are now at the mercy of any hung-over Spanish digger driver that excavates in the wrong place!
Disaster recovery procedures score 1 out of 10 (only for keeping the web site open)
Customer information score 0 out of 10 for misleading everybody.

I have had exemplary service from Cahoot over many years, but I now wonder where the Santander connection is going to lead them.

I have a Cahoot Account here and a BancoSantander Account in Spain.

Trust me this is about par for the course for Santander, most days their " hole in the wall " doesn't work.

I will be closing my Cahoot Account after this episode, the lack of honest information is my major concern.

Cahoot got the " Which " award for the best Current Account ..yeah right, just shows what a waste of space Which Awards are.

    I just called them too.

They gave me the 'power failure' story.

They say that a statement was issued to the media at 1.30pm yesterday, but the 'information hasn't got through to the general public'.

The fault has been established and they're working on it now. Should be up and running this afternoon.

People are getting different messages when they try to access cahoot.com because the techies are working on the website and so the pages are up and down, sometimes accessible, sometimes not.

It's just an unfortunate coincidence that these problems are occurring now. Your money is safe. It's just a system problem.

    Allegedly.
  • Ah, if only technology was perfect ... but it's not! However, what's done when the technology fails can be better and that is the service Cahoot has failed to supply ... keep your customers informed. Cahoot has failed to keep its customers informed and appears not to care but rather to rely on our laziness. I will be moving my account to First Direct, having consulted the Banking?savings section on this site, and I'm looking forward to my £100 bonus. Stay if you want.
  • Hi all,

    Just a couple of thoughts.

if the site is down, try not to use a favorites link direct to the login page. try to enter the site from cahoot.com otherwise you may see unsettling pages come up.

As for use of the cards I was aware that the site was down yesterday, but continued to do a small shop at morrisons, if the bill amount is below the till ceiling (floor limit)then the sale went through ok,
Now I believe the till ceiling could be £50, that is there is no actual live intercouse of data between the retailer and the bank below a certain sum.
There used to be a reconcile in the night between the card machine and the bank, and a list of blocked cards would be downloaded to the card reader. We would have to make sure the dedicated telephone lines were on during this reconcile ( the process had a unique name but I cannot remember what it was, polling probably).

Anyway some shops like my small local coop branch request for authorisation of all transactions however small, which is why it takes soo long to checkout. Unlike Morrisons for whom small sums is instanataneous. Therefore I shall not use my card anywhere I believe there not to be a floor limit.

presumably this is also the case at some cash points, so I guess if you want your daily limit out, maybe you may have to do several £40's in a row(just a guess).

Anyway I am not too bothererd, cahoot are clearly having a big technical problem at a very very bad time, but isnt that just called life!!!

I do not believe there is anything insidious happening.

Maybe not, but the fact that their systems/disaster recovery provisions are so poor is enough for me to move to another bank for my primary current account. No access for over 24 hrs in the current climate is just not good enough.
