  • I've been trying to get my tax deduction information for my tax return since Friday, so I finally get in but it's incorrectly saying I've had no interest paid. There's a £125 fee from my accountant if I don't get the info to them tonight, unless I can talk them around.. but shouldn't have to! Cahoot have let me down far too often now.

I've managed to log in but it's very slow and I've just had one page saying "error - sorry a problem has occurred" (they certainly have an exciting variety of different error pages!).

Still, after a few attempts I've managed to work my way through the "cancel your account" process. :T Bye-bye, Cahoot!

    Fantastic:

    service is suspended

We are currently updating our systems. This takes approximately 5 minutes. Please wait until the cahoot service is resumed. Thanks for your patience.

Yes, mine says no interest paid too. Relieved I managed to get in and my funds are still intact but hope it's not going down again for another three days while they sort the interest problem out. Any good suggestions for alternative banking?

First Direct, without a shadow of doubt. Lousy interest rates, but every bit as good as Santander-owned banks like cahoot are bad. Online works superbly, and if there's ever any need for assistance, the telephone side works just as well (24 hours, 365 days). No press button options - straight through, usually in seconds.

Can anyone get into the messages section of the cahoot website?

Should have added this about First Direct:

Switch to first direct and we'll give you £100*. If you're not happy after 6 months we'll help you move to another bank and give you another £100**. That's £100 if you like us and £200 if you don't.

I can see messages in my account. The only message is the one concerning this weekend's activities:
    31-08-2010
    type: system message
Essential Maintenance – Saturday 4th September: Due to essential maintenance, the cahoot website and automated telephone banking will be unavailable from 17:30 on Saturday 4th September to 5:00 on Monday 6th September. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause and thank you for your patience in this matter.
I'm sure the site was down for "essential maintenance" last weekend too.
  • I've managed to access my account today but it is very slow and full of error messages. Several of my standing orders and direct debits seem to have disappeared (including my mortgage)....

    There is one system message:

I can log in too now but can't do much once inside - - there are not statement data at all, and I can't access any payment book and standing order/direct debit data.

I can see 3 system messages (one duplicate) which look as if they had been put up last week, announcing a maintenance outage from last Friday to yesterday morning 5 am. Nothing else - not even an apology for the ongoing issues.

It would let me transfer money from my savings account to another bank - - fingers xed it will arrive the other end before long.

Instructed First Direct to move my current account from Cahoot to them and can't wait to say good riddance to Cahoot.

I've logged in and navigated around the site a bit this morning. My account financial data seems intact but a long history of messages to the account have vanished, to be replaced by just one system message about the planned outage last weekend. One page resulted in an error page. All in all it is a very shaky experience with Cahoot/A&L/Santander and I shall be glad to be out of there.

Unfortunately I do not have a regular income, so choosing the right account to move to is not quite as simple as I would wish. It seems like First Direct is the right place to go, but I'm going to have to fabricate some transactions to ensure sufficient monthly transactions. What a stupid system!
