I don't think anyone will get a black credit mark - it is a systems failure rather than an unpaid DD due to insufficient funds. I'm confident that this will be apparent to the DD beneficiaries.

I wish I could share your confidence in the credit agencies' ability to handle this.

But it is not actually a default - rather the financial institution has failed to comply with the customer's instructions - kind of force majeure. I don't think it would be an accurate record to if it reflected a default when there was absolutely nothing the account holder could have done.

I feel sorry for the bloke whose cahoot outage left him unable to top up his phone and fill up his car, hope it's been sorted out now.

As for the whole "black mark on the credit file" thing, exactly what information are lenders able to share these days? I realise that they might cut the limit and up the rates on your existing accounts with them, but I'd be surprised to hear that other lenders are able to find out about it that quickly.

Not that anyone is getting any new credit lines these days anyway. I don't know if anyone's noticed, but there seems to be a credit crunch going on at the moment.

I think the concern is things like direct debits not being honoured.
  • I don't believe it! to quote Mr Meldrew. Just tried to log on to Cahoot to find site not available due to maintenance. An internet bank that is never available online, now there'a a novelty.
  • I know this is an old thread, but did anybody leave?

Yes - but not for this reason. Left them simply because they won't provide customers with Faster Payments. Their accounts are useless to me unless I can move the money elsewhere quickly.

I'm not sure - I don't recall any 'planned' maintenance
