good luck, bear in mind the rapid loaf is more dense than the normal long rise one

I recently bought a Panasonic SD257 and after a bit of experimenting found that I prefer the medium rapid bake wholemeal loaf. I make one on a Sunday evening and it lasts for my lunchtime sandwiches Mon-Fri without drying out.
Would like to start making the fruit breads as well but seem to have tidied away my recipe book somewhere.

Hi, looking for some advice re: my new Panasonic SD-257.
I was hoping to have a nice warm loaf on arrival home from work tonight, but couldn't seem to get the timer to set.
I was planning on using 'bake rapid', 'medium', 'light' .... is their only certain programs where the timer will work ???
A creative mess is better than tidy idleness :D

    Hi PP

Yes paddle in both times. Last time (the brick one) it was embedded in the loaf which happens very rarely.

The second one looked like it had mixed but was not spread out. You know how you panic and can convince yourself you smell burning, well that is what happened.

I am just wondering if the machine is getting tired. It has been fabulous up until now, though my loaves have always been browner (on the light crust) than I would have liked.

Using the same recipe as always. Basic white loaf.

We did not realise you could not leave the breadmaker in soak so the paddle c-slip that keeps the paddle in place and allows it to rotate rusted and broke...this could be what is happening to yours...Panie will supply you with a replacement for free...they sent us two clips when this happened but took 2 weeks:eek:... went straight out and purchased another one though because we could not do without one!!!Dianne
p.s 2 are handy though with 'guests'

    Thanks Dianne.

I am the proud owner of a new SD257 and am back in action.

I made a very nice half and half loaf plain/wholemeal and baked it on the basic bake for 3 hours. It turned out very well. :)

I have had my Panasonic SD255 for 2 years now and still loving using it all the time :)

I spotted this in my local Lakeland....

    http://www.lakeland.co.uk/claybrooke-mill-dough-improver/F/keyword/bread+improver/product/11682

Has anyone ever used it? Does it make any difference.

    Thanks,
    Jeff
  • If your bread is turning out ok without this item then as they say 'if it aint broke don't fix it'! If however your bread is a bit heavy then maybe give it a go and see if it makes much difference. It will be interesting to read your thoughts on it if you decide to give it a go.
My bread has been fine, it has risen, it's light and tasty every time I have baked a loaf in my panny SD 255 so I don't think I will try the product from Lakeland as I don't see any need to.
  • Hi

I've had my pannie for over 3 years and bake a small white or wholemeal loaf nearly everyday but for the past week the mixing blade has stayed in the loaf.

Can anyone tell me why and what I can do to prevent it happening?

    Thank you.

PS I love my pannie and hope it's something I can put right :(
