  • Hi,

Just got the Panasonic SD254 and made a gluten free loaf last night, following the intsruction manual's guide for baking with Doves Farm gf bread flour. It was ok, but the bread didn't rise very much and tasted a bit oily. Has anyone had much success with baking gf bread in the Panasonic? I'm thinking of upping the yeast and losing some of the oil from the suggested recipe.

I've read the packet several times and for the life of me cannot see how long I'm supposed to set the bread maker for. Been up since 4 so apologies if it's staring me in the face.

I know I have to mix all the ingredients before putting them in the machine as there is no cake mix setting, but how long am I supposed to set the bake setting for?

It's the ginger cake mix. Machine panasonic SD255

    Many thanks

I have recently bought the Panasonic 257 after having the SD254 for 3 years. I had put the SD254 it on as usual using the timer so it was ready when I came back in. Fortunately hubby was working at home and smelt burning, went to investigate and there was smoke coming out of the BM. Dread to think what could have happened if he was not at home.

Each loaf I have made in the new one is dense, heavy and does not rise properly.

I have tried different flours, but they all come out the same. has anyone else changed from an older machine and had the same problem and found a way to get nice bread again. Never had this problem with the old machine and getting fed up now, although the birds are more than happy!
  • Are you still using the SD254 recipes in the new machine?...apparantly panasonic have made slight recipe changes for the 256/7 newer models.

The recipe I use is exactly the same in the new book as the old one although I had noticed that some had changed.

Someone had a similar problem on another bread making forum, which was sorted when they bought new yeast.

I'm not being picky, but can you clarify the bit in red, please? Was it your SD257 that was smoking,or your old machine?

It was the old machine - had it for just under 3 years. Still didn't expect it to be smoking though.

OK - will buy some new yeast today. I am still using the pack that I was using before the old BM packed up and had no problems with it but anything is worth a try as we are not enjoying the bread from new BM
