The same happens to me, although my does rise...... so I have given up making bread!!
My machine is a swan. The yeast I use is Tesco's Fast Action Dried Yeast.. Good luck, can you come back and let us know how you get on...
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.
If you really cant knit very well, then practise drumming with the needles...

Each loaf I have made in the new one is dense, heavy and does not rise properly.tillycat123 wrote: »I know I have to mix all the ingredients before putting them in the machine as there is no cake mix setting, but how long am I supposed to set the bake setting for?
As these threads have fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add them to the existing Panasonic BM thread to keep ideas together:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

Have just taken a loaf out of BM after using Hovis Fast Action yeast and I have a loaf that has risen:j. Haven't cut into it yet but it looks better than the others I have made so far with new BM. Looks like I will be throwing the Sainsbury's own brand yeast out even though I have used this with no problem for 3 years.0 -
Hi
I have the SD253 it's the older shaped model around 5 years old or so.
My last two loaves have been disasters.
No 1. was a brick. Thought it may be the Asda flour so attempted,
No 2. seemed to be progressing as normal but I thought I could smell burning so had a quick peep and the machine was baking the dough but it was not shaped in a loaf, as if the dough had not spread out.
I have another loaf on the go but it's getting wasteful.
Anyone had this problem or did you know when your Panny needed replacing.

Maybe a daft question, but the last thread we had where a loaf hadn't mixed properly, the poster hadn't put in the paddle :rotfl: Have you made any changes recently?
What recipe are you using?:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Hi PP
Yes paddle in both times. Last time (the brick one) it was embedded in the loaf which happens very rarely.
The second one looked like it had mixed but was not spread out. You know how you panic and can convince yourself you smell burning, well that is what happened.
I am just wondering if the machine is getting tired. It has been fabulous up until now, though my loaves have always been browner (on the light crust) than I would have liked.
Using the same recipe as always. Basic white loaf.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Has anyone made the brioche loaf as per the recipe in the Panasonic recipe book you get with the SD255? I made one and it seems to be a bit dry and crumbly. Is it supposed to be like that, and can I toast it?0
